B. Review

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

Teacher’s Say: Pupil’s answer:
In your previous topic, you’ve learned about how to
Find the Area of Irregular plane figures. I have here an example
shape of an irregular plane figures.

Example: formula:
8m A1= l x w
A1=? A 2= s x s
4m Total Area= a1 + a2

A2=? 4m

4m
C. Motivation
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
Teacher’s Say:
I have here a word puzzle, I want you to encircle the words
that you can found in these puzzle.

B D M E R T E H G
A S Q Z M R L Y I
R E C T A N G L E
J R H U F B U S C
P B Q K Z C W F H
O S L I U E D A X
Pupil’s answer:

Questions:  Rectangle, Square, rhombus

What shapes is this?  4 sides
How many sides are there in the rectangle?
How many sides are there in the square?
How many sides are there in the rhombus?
D. Presentation

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

Teacher’s Say:

I’ve shown you these kinds of shapes because these are one
of the examples of the Parallelogram because, today we are
going to learn about how to find the Area of Parallelogram. (but
before that let us first know the meaning of parallelogram)

E. Discussion

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

Parallelogram –a four-sided shape made up of two pairs of straight

parallel lines that are equal in length.

Example:

Teacher’s say:
(Ok. Since we’ve already knew what is parallelogram, so
now let’s move on in finding the area of a parallelogram) the Area
of a parallelogram has a formula.

Formula: A = b x h

A= Area
b= Base
h= Height

Example 1: A flower garden has a shape of a rectangle. It has a base

of 10 cm and a height of 6 cm. What is the area of the garden?

Answer: A= b x h
A= (10 cm) x (6 cm)
A= 60 cm2

Example 2: A beginner woodworking student accidentally built a

picture frame in the shape of a parallelogram with base of 8 inches
and height of 9 inches. What is the area of the frame?

Answer: A = b x h
A= (8 inches) x (9 inches)
A= 72 inches2

Teacher’s Say:
I will call one representative in every rows from row 1 to row 4.
You are going to answer the example problem 2.

Example 2: Mario and his son Juan buy a land and has a shape of Pupil’s answer:
parallelogram. It has a base of 15cm and a height of 8cm. what is the
area of the land? Example 2: Mario and his son Juan buy a land
and has a shape of parallelogram. It has a
Answer: A= b x h base of 15cm and a height of 8cm. what is the
A= (15cm) x (8cm) area of the land?
A= 120 cm2
Answer: A= b x h
A= (15cm) x (8cm)
A= 120 cm2
F. Generalization

Teacher’s Say: Pupil’s answer:

What is parallelogram?  Parallelogram are shapes that have

four sides
What is the formula in finding the Area of parallelogram?  A= b x h

G. Application
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
Direction: I will group you into three groups. Each group will
be given a puzzle problem and then I want you to form a
puzzle afterwards, solve what is ask in the problem. Then
choose a representative to solve on the board.
Pupil’s answer:
Question: A grade IV classroom has a shape of parallelogram.
A= b x h
It has a base of 8m and a height of 12m. What is the area of A= (8m) x (12m)
the classroom? A= 96m2
