Motivation (5mins)
Class the data from X1 to X10 are 85, 80, 88, 83,
87, 89, 84, 80, 94 and 90. Arranging these in
increasing order, that is from least to greatest
80,80,83,84,85,87,88,89,90 and 94. Class, what
do you observe with the data? The data given are all number.

Yes,_____________ That’s right!

Class if I am going to use these data 80, 80, 83,

84, 85, 87, 88, 90 and 94 as the math grades of
10 students. And aside from adding these data
with the use of summation method and these
data can also be summarized into a single
number or single data.
Lesson Proper (15mins)
Our lesson for today is about the Central
Tendencies in Statistics
They are the Mean, Median and Mode.
Lets start with the Mean

Mean

Kayo ang Bida!

The mean class is the average of all elements in
the set.
Formula:
Σ𝑥
𝑥=
𝑁
(I know class that you remember what this Symbol Student A. Maam, it is called Sigma
means Σ𝑥 )
* Call a student
-Correct!
What do you think this Formula Means:
* Call a student Student B. Maam, x is equal to Summation of x divided
-Thats Right! by N
“Where as Σ𝑥 is the summation of all value of the
elements, and N is the number of all elements in the
set.”

I want you all to bring out a piece of paper. And I

challenge you to solve this with me! Students bring out the pieces of Papers

Example #1
I want to Find the Average allowance of Teacher Ian
for the 1st week of Februrary
Given:
Monday: P75.00
Tuesday: P85.00
Wednesday: P 70.00
Thursday: P70.00
Friday: P70.00
Saturday: P120.00
Sunday: P119.00

So class how many numbers (N) do we have?

*Call a student
Very good ! Student C : We have 7 numbers.
Now I know that some of you are answering this on
their paper
So what is the Summation of this given.

So What now are complete Given

-call a student
Answer: Σ𝑥 =P636 and N = 7

No applying now this in our Formula

75 + 85 + 70 + 70 + 70 + 120 + 119
𝑥=
7
𝑥
609.
𝑥=
7 75 + 85 + 70 + 70 + 70 + 120 + 119
𝑋=
𝑥 = 91 7
What now is our mean
-Call a student 609.
𝑥=
So our mean is P91.00 7
𝑥 = 91

So our mean is P91.00.

Call a student
𝑥 = 96

Okey Now Try this on your seats

Median (Central point of the set) Student H: Maam it is the Center of the elements
Base on what you see on the 4 pics one word what
do you think is a median.
Call a student
Your observant !
Median represented by Md, is the value of the
middle term when the data are arranged in
ascending or decending order.
It is affected by the number of items not by the size
of extreme balues..
Steps in getting the median (while the example #1 is
being used)
1. Arrange the Data in the array of ascending
or descending order.
2. Take note of the items in the middle
position. If there is an odd number of items,
the middle item is the median
3. If the number is an even number, the
median is taken as arithmetic mean values
falling in the middle.
Note:
But wait class! Do anyone here remember what is
an odd number and an even number? Students Raise hands.

Can anyone tell me what it is? Please raise your

hand Student I: Odd numbers are numbers like 1 , 3 , and 5
-call student I while even numbers are numbers divisible by 2.
Very good! You are recalling your past lesson quite
good. Unarrange Arrange
75 70
Continuation for example for the Median 85 70

Thursday: P70.00 Sunday: P119.00
Friday: P70.00
Saturday: P120.00
Sunday: P119.00 75 is the Median Maam

It is odd , number 7 is an odd number so our

Median is? With me class!

D 2 2 F 4 4
E 3 3 G 2 4
F 4 4 H 4 4
G 2 4
H 4 4 Student Raise hands!

What do you observe class? Anyone? The number is even.

You get it Right!
Class if the numbers given are in even Student : 2 and 3 !
We should 1st arrange then get the 2 middle then
divide it by 2.

For this one the 2 middle are.?

Call student.

Good 7 Firefly.

So 2 and 3 thats right

No we do this: Look carefully Class.

2+3
𝑀𝑑 =
2+3 2
𝑀𝑑 = 5
2 𝑀𝑑 =
5 2
𝑀𝑑 = 𝑀𝑑 = 2.5
2
𝑀𝑑 = 2.5
So our Median is 2.5
Is there any other question class?
Do you get it? Yes Maam. It is easy
It is easy isn’t it.
Fixing Skills for Median
The Grades of a College student at BPSU are 93, 95,
96, 96, 98 and 92.
Find the Median for this Data
Answer:
92 , 93, 95, 96, 96, 98 Student will answer:
95 + 96
𝑀𝑑 =
2 95 + 96
191 𝑀𝑑 =
𝑀𝑑 = 2
2 191
𝑀𝑑 = 95.5 𝑀𝑑 =
2
𝑀𝑑 = 95.5
GREAT!
Any Question for the Median?
Clarification?
It is easy right
Mode (The most frequently occuring value in a
given set of data.)
7 Firefly do you know that this is the most easiest to
get of all the 3.
This requires no calculation and just counting. You
just have to analyze the data.

What is the mode of our 1st example? Student M : 70 is the mode of our 1st example
Call a student .
Nice Nice
Student N: 2
What is the mode of our 2nd Example?
Very Good?

As you can see in our second example the mode is 2

and 4, this is distribution is called is unimodal

While in number example 1 is unimodal.

What do you think is the Mode of this set of Data?

Call a student

Class it is very easy Right!

Students will Try this on they Paper Student will Answer:

Very Good for those who got a perfect Score!
And all of you are great! Mean Median and Mode!
Values Integration (Indicator 1)
A while ago, we discuss about on how to
measure central tendency of ungrouped data.
From the word central class, we can associate it It is the middle part of everything around us.
with the word center. How will you define the
word center? Yes,___________ That’s right!

Now, how about in your real life situation class,

who is the center of your life?

Yes,___________ Another idea? The center of my life is my family.

Yes,___________ Very good! The center of my life is my mother.

How about God, did you also make Him as the

center of your life? Why did you make God as Yes, ma’am I always make God as the center of
the center of your life? Yes,___________ my life because I know ma’am with god nothing
Exactly! So class, whoever is the center of our is impossible
life we should not forget God because He is the
source of everything. Whatever decision or
thing we will make, we should not forget God
because without Him we are nothing.
