Data Analysis Lesson Plan

This lesson teaches high school students about analyzing sports survey data using Microsoft Teams. Students will create surveys about classmates' skill levels in different sports using forms. They will analyze the data in Excel and use it to create balanced teams based on ability. Assessing prior knowledge through surveys and grouping students based on data allows for informed instructional decisions. Reflecting on the process helps students learn and the teacher understand their levels of comprehension.

☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Describe how you could address Universal Design for Learning principles
to extend and support the learning experiences for all students.
Microsoft is a form of UDL in that it provides many different forms and varieties of learning for all students.
Sway provides the ability to create Data for things such as surveys, and reports.

Lesson idea implementation: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do? How will
the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? How will student learning be assessed? How will
the final product be used to inform/differentiate learning? How will you extend the student learning to a
higher learning level? How will you conclude the lesson? How will you provide feedback to students about
their work? MINIMUM 2 paragraph overview.
In this lesson the students will create a Data analysis for in health, the students will use productivity tools to
assess students’ background knowledge and skill levels for a particular content area or activity. The students
will each create a survey using Microsoft or Google Forms and have students create a serious of questions to
assess their classmates ability level in playing a particular sport. The students can choose the sport they want
to asses from their class mates .
After students fill out the survey, the data can be pulled into an Excel or Google Spreadsheet and analyzed to
see skill level for each student and an average skill level across the class can be calculated. Analyzed data can
then be applied to make informed instructional decisions. For example, the students can use a web-based
tool called Keamk.com in order to group students into teams based on ability levels. This represents informed
data decision making using various technology tools.

Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, how do you feel the activities you created could impact
student learning? You may have designed this idea as an introductory activity to a unit of study. With that in
mind, what could be done to further extend the lesson? Are there other technology tools that could further
enhance this project?

Data Analysis
The activities in this lesson will help the students learn the material and give them an opportunity to practice
what they have learned in a variety of ways. The best way to know whether or not the students understand
the info will be to see how they did on their assessments and how they felt during the reflection time in
closure. One way to extend the lesson would for the students to write down their thoughts after each of their
own survey creations to see what they felt they learned about the class as well as from the assignment after
assessing the results.
