Product description
KUKA.Sim Layout KUKA.Sim Layout is a program for creating 3D layouts with KUKA robots. It
allows different layouts, drafts and robot tasks to be quickly and easily created
and compared with each other. With its extensive component library and
Plug&Play functionality, it is the ideal simulation software for sales teams for
producing concept studies and accessibility analyses without cycle time spec-
ifications.
KUKA.Sim Pro KUKA.Sim Pro is used for the complete offline programming of KUKA robots.
This product allows the analysis of cycle times and the generation of robot pro-
grams. It also enables a real-time connection to the virtual KUKA robot con-
troller (KUKA.OfficeLite). KUKA.Sim Pro is additionally used for building
parametric components and defining kinematic systems, which can also be
used in KUKA.Sim Layout. KUKA.OfficeLite is included in the KUKA.Sim Pro
package.
KUKA.Sim Pro comprises the functionality of KUKA.Sim Layout together with
an additional application programming interface (.Net API). This interface en-
ables other development environments (e.g. C#) to trigger and influence the
simulation in different ways (e.g. starting and controlling).
In addition, CAD importers are available in KUKA.Sim Pro.
Use The KUKA.Sim software is used for creating 3D layouts with KUKA robots
(KUKA.Sim Layout) and also for the offline programming of KUKA robots (KU-
KA.Sim Pro).
Misuse Any use or application deviating from the intended use is deemed to be misuse
and is not allowed. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage re-
sulting from such use. The risk lies entirely with the user.

The KUKA.Sim component library contains over 1,000 typical layout compo-
nents (robots, grippers, fences, etc.) for KUKA.Sim. The component library is
part of the setup and is installed in the background.
Description The following illustrations show the uninstallation procedure for KUKA.Sim
Pro. The uninstallation procedure for KUKA.Sim Layout is comparable with
that for KUKA.Sim Pro.
Procedure 1. In the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel > Programs > Pro-
grams and Functions. The list of installed programs is displayed.
2. Select the corresponding version of KUKA.Sim. Click on Uninstall and an-
swer the request for confirmation with Yes.
3. To continue the process, click on Next.
During the uninstallation of a single PC license, the license key for KU-
KA.Sim installation is automatically deactivated on the activation server.
After completion of the uninstallation, the license key is then available for
reinstallation on another PC and can be activated there.
Fig. 3-7
4. Activate the check box for “Deactivate the license key” to enable the trans-
fer of the single PC license to another PC. Then click on Next to deactivate
the license key.

License key
License types:
Stand-alone license
Network license
Renewal and deactivation
The order number can be found on the order confirmation and on the
delivery note.
Stand-alone license:
The license is on the PC on which KUKA.Sim is used. The license key is
then valid for this PC only. It can also be transferred to a different PC.
Network license:
The license is assigned by a license server.
A license server must be set up which can be accessed across the network
by the PC on which KUKA.Sim is installed.
KUKA.Sim is activated after installation. The license key (product key) must
be requested as described under (>>> 4.2 "License key" Page 15).
The license is on the PC on which KUKA.Sim is used. The license key is then
valid for this computer only. It can also be transferred to a different computer.
For a speedy transfer, Internet access is required.
Procedure 1. The window for activating the license opens automatically, provided KU-
KA.Sim is not licensed. Click on Next to continue the activation.

Information about the details of the license can be found under Info > Li-
cense Details.
Network licenses provide a flexible way of using KUKA.Sim on more than one
PC. As long as a license remains requested by a PC, this license is allocated
to this PC. When KUKA.Sim is closed, the license becomes available again
and can be accessed by another PC.
A license server is required to manage the network licenses.
Precondition The license server can be installed on any available network PC running Win-
dows XP or higher. It is recommended that installation is performed with ad-
ministrator privileges. “Microsoft Management Console” (MMC) should be
installed on the license server. The software can be downloaded from the Mi-
crosoft website. In addition, “.NET framework 3.5” or higher should be in-
stalled.
Description The following illustrations show the installation procedure for the license serv-
er. Follow the installation instructions.
Fig. 4-8
Fig. 4-9
3. Select the directory in which the license server is to be saved. The license
server is installed by default under “C:\Programme\VisualComponents\Vi-
sualComponentsLicenseServer”. If the installation path is changed, the
memory requirement must be checked.
Then click on Next.

Procedure 1. Start the license server via Start > Programs > Visual Components > Vi-
sual Components License Server > Visual Components License
Server Manager. The Start window is opened.
2. Click on Settings.... The window for the license server settings is opened.
3. Make the relevant settings and confirm with OK. The license is now dis-
played in the list in the start window.
The Port number 5093 is assigned.
Commuter limit makes it possible to specify what percentage of the
licenses may be checked out.
4. In the start window, select the license and click on Add.... The input box
for the license key is opened.
6. In the start window, select the license and click on Activate. The status of
the license changes to “Activated”.
If the Stop Local server button is visible at the upper left of the start
page, the license server has been started.
If the Start Local server button is visible at the upper left of the start
page, the license server has not been started.
If licensing is being carried out manually using a license file, this li-
cense file must be loaded with Open license file....

Information about the details of the license can be found under Info > Li-
cense.
After successful confirmation of licensing, KUKA.Sim can be used. For the pe-
riod of use, the license is blocked and cannot be used by another user.
It must be ensured that the license is active for the network server and
that the user has been enabled for the network server.
Description The network license can be temporarily loaned to a local computer. The bor-
rowing period can be freely chosen but must not exceed 90 days.
The network license is no longer available on the network for the borrowing pe-
riod. For this reason, no connection to the network server is required for use
of the borrowed licenses for the duration of the borrowing period. When the
borrowing period has expired, the network license automatically becomes
available again on the network.
Procedure 1. Select the menu sequence Info > License. The following window ap-
pears.
2. Enter the desired borrowing period (number of days) in the Duration box.
3. Click on Borrow.
Description A borrowed network license can be returned from the local computer to the li-
cense server before it has expired.
Precondition The network license has been loaned to the local computer.
(>>> 4.5.4 "Temporarily borrowing a network license" Page 27)
Procedure 1. Select the menu sequence Info > License. The following window ap-
