Storytelling adalah sebuah teknik atau kemampuan untuk menyampaikan sebuah cerita dengan
gaya, intonasi, dan alat bantu yang menarik agar bisa dipahami oleh pendengar/audiens.
Cara bercerita dalam bahasa inggris supaya menarik dan bisa dipahami oleh penonton adalah
kita harus memiliki kemampuan public speaking yang baik, memahami karakter audiens, serta
pintar mengatur nada dan intonasi.
B. ringkasan cerita local
Once upon time in Bangka, lived a hunter. His name was Blowpiper. He always went hunting
using his blowpipe. He also had excellent medical skill that was passed down from his late
father.
Pak Raje was the richest man in the village, asked to Blowpiper to hunt the wild hogs. Blowpiper
agreed. When the fold of boars ruined the paddies, He blew his blowpipe. The dart hit the boar,
but it didn’t paralyze the boar as the blowpiper expected.
The blowpiper went to follow the blood trail of the boar he shot last night. Finally the blood trail
stopped in a big cave. The blowpiper was surprised found a beautiful lady bleeding on a soft bed,
surrounded by some other beautiful ladies. One of them was an old lady. Who are you?”
“My name is Blowpiper. I’m looking for a wounded hog. I shot it using my blowpipe.”
“So, it’s you! You are the man who hurt my daughter!” Slowly a woman appeared in front of
him.
“Come, follow me,” said the woman. She then pointed a girl. She was wounded. Her leg was
bleeding.
“She was not a real hog. We are the goddess of the jungle. I will forgive you, but you have to
cure my daughter.”Blowpiper was so scared. He then took some leaves and put the leaves on the
wound. After a while, the girl was cured. The woman then gave Blowpiper a present. At home,
Blowpiper immediately opened the present. Wow! He got jewelries, gold and diamond.
Blowpiper sold the jewelries and now he became a rich man.
Pak Raje heard that Blowpiper had become a rich man. After he knew all about it, he borrowed
Blowpiper’s blowpipe. He waited at his plantation, and he shot a wild hog. Pak Raje followed
the blood trail and arrived at the cave. He met the woman and the injured girl. Pak Raje was
asked to cure the girl. But he could not do that, and that made the woman angry. She asked all
the wild hogs to attack Pak Raje. Hearing the bad news, the blowpiper rushed to Pak Raje‘s
house and with his medical skill, he tried to cure Pak Raje’s injuries. Pak Raje thanks to the
blowpiper and asked to him to become the next village chief and to marry his daughter. Finally,
they live happily.
C. ringkasan cerita luar negeri
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl called Maria. She was tall, with black eyes, and long
shining hair. The colour of her skin was a clear light brow. One morning, while she was
collecting firewood, she met a young man. He looked like a hunter. He was tall, handsome and
very neatly dressed. No one knew who he was or where he came from. Nor did anyone know his
name. Maria liked him. He liked her too. Maria did not know this but he was an anito or a spirit
from the sky. They became friends. Although they were good friends for a long time, the young
man never asked Maria to became his wife. This made Maria very unhappy. “I have no parents
or brothers or sisters,” she said. “You too are alone. I am sure we could be happy together.” “I
didn’t want to tell you this,” the young man said, “but I am an anito. I cannot marry a human
being. I have to return to the sky.”Maria was surprised. She did not know what to say. She held
his hands tightly. “please let me go,” said the young man. “I had hoped you would never find out
who I am.” There was a blinding flash of light and the young man disappeared. But as Maria was
holding on to his hands so tightly, he left them behind. Of course, Maria was frightened. She ran
home and buried them in her garden. Soon she saw a strange plant growing where she had buried
them. The plant grew fast. Then some fruit appeared. It was yellow and shaped like a man’s hand
with fingers on it. It was the first banana.
D. Tujuan memilih kedua cerita tersebut karena Dalam cerita tersebut mengandung pesan/
amanah dan nilai-nilai positif yang memiliki manfaat nyata dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, yang
diarahkan untuk mempelajari kearifan lokal dan bermanfaat untuk membentuk budi pekerti
