work! Mean, mode, median, and range are difficult concepts for third graders to grasp. I
have used techniques in class that have helped the students grasp understand these
concepts better. Encourage them to use these strategies at home using manipulatives,
i.e., cereal, candy, coins, etc. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday. Study the
half-page handout with definitions that went home last week. We will have a test
Thursday on mean, median, mode, and range. Check assignment tablet nightly for
additional homework.

him/her. Discuss the story, ask questions, and have your child “retell” the story to you. Vocabulary
words were sent home on the “Home Connections” page, in addition to a separate page. Test on story and
vocabulary Friday.

MATH Please continue to review Daily Math Practice sheets found in the “Daily Editing” folder every
evening with your child. Weekly Friday quizzes are taken directly from these pages. The children are getting
more comfortable with these practices and grades are improving. Keep up the great work! We continue
problem solving using R.I.C.E. In addition, we will explore range, median, mode. Test Friday. Check
assignment tablet nightly for additional homework, generally a worksheet.

PARENTS, PLEASE NOTE: Check your child’s assignment tablet DAILY for homework assignments and
test dates as these may change as we go through the week. As you will see from test grades, students ARE NOT
studying the Daily Editing sent home each day. It is so important that you review these skills with the students.
We go over them repeatedly in class, but the extra practice will help them tremendously on their Friday tests.

***Many students are NOT completing homework. I only give necessary homework and students are expected
to be responsible for completing these assignments. Please go over assignments with your child.

addition to skills practiced, we will also focus on contractions this week.
