Project Plan For Extension Wire

The students will create an extension cord as a school project. They will use 5 meters of #14 flat cord wire, a male plug, and an outlet. Tools needed include screwdrivers, wire strippers, and safety equipment. To make the cord, they will strip the insulation at the wire ends, test the continuity, attach the wire to the male plug and outlet using screws, and test that the completed cord works properly under AC current. The goal is to safely demonstrate how to construct a basic extension cord.

Name of Students: Year & Section: 11- Block D

Salvador Riparip Date Started: January 13, 2020

Jesselle Serrano Date Finished:

Arvin James Dagta

John Roi Marino

Evan Daen

I. Name of Project : Extension Cord

II. Objective

a. Demonstrate how to make an extension cord.

b. Observe safely measures while doing the project.

III. Sketch or Drawing

IV. Materials Needed:

 5 meters #14 flat cord

 1 pc. PL201 male plug

 1 pc. NS-917 B-outlet

V. Tools and Equipments Needed :
 Slotted Screwdriver
 Philip’s Screwdriver
 Long nose prier
 Side cutter
 Meter stick
 Wire stripper(optional)
 Electrician’s knife/cutter
 PPE(Safety Googles/hand Gloves)
 Multi-Tester (continuity/Voltage)

VI. Procedure
1. Prepare the area.
2. Gather all the needed materials, tools and equipment.
3. Wear accurate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
4. Start the activity by getting the #14 Flat Cord and using side cutting plier and Long Nose plier, At
the tip of the wire(both side), remove the insulator to your desire length or accurate length.
5. When you are done. Undergo now for continuity testing to check if the wire is working properly.
Now, get the Multi-Tester and set it to the accurate range which is Dc and calibrate the meter.
Once your done, using the test probes, put the positive probe at the tip of the wire (conductor) and
then the negative probe at the opposite end .Once the meter move and gives reding means the
wire is good.
6. Get the Male Plug and insert the wire, loosen the two screws inside of it by using a Philip Screw
Driver. Now, put the wire(conductor) at the screws and tighten it. ( It should be strong and firm).
7. On the side of the wire,Get the Oulet and remove the crews to open it, and the are two remaining
screw inside, loosen the srews and insert the wire (conductor) and tighten it, put the cover back. (
It should be strong and firm)
8. Now, perform the AC continuity Testing.the begin the said testing, first plug the male plug at the
live oulet (220 volts), get the Multi-Tester and set it to AC Range ( 250 v) don’t forget to calibrate
the meter. test the extension wire by placing the two probes to the outlet of the extension
wire(vice versa), if the Tester goves reading means the extension wire working properly.
9. Finally, you’re done, take good care of it and use it well.
