Self Concept

The development of self-concept depends on acceptance from family, society, and one's environment. One's self-concept is influenced by the love and support received, their perceived capabilities and abilities, and acceptance from family and society. A person's self-concept can be positive or negative depending on factors like their self-esteem, confidence in their strengths and weaknesses, and whether they are honest about themselves. Teachers and schools can influence a student's self-concept through their expectations, interactions, and how they structure teaching and learning activities.

SELF CONCEPT

DEFINITION

The development of self-concept depends on acceptance and


treatment from family, society and environment

The evaluation of an individual self concept can be seen through 3


sources :

- love & support they receive from their environment

- capability & ability

- family & society acceptance of them

One’s personality is related to his self-concept as it is about the


characteristic of a person (e.g thinking style & emotions)

TYPES OF SELF CONCEPT

POSITIVE SELF-CONCEPT NEGATIVE SELF-CONCEPT

Balanced and harmonious personality Personality is unbalanced and has an

 Every person needs to receive the advantages and


disadvantages

 Awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of the self


and selfishness will help shape the formation of positive
self-concept
