Grade 10 PE DLP 11

The document is a daily lesson plan for a Grade 10 Health class focusing on first aid techniques for injuries during recreational activities. The lesson plan covers (1) recognizing the PRICED and HARM procedures for applying first aid, (2) demonstrating how to apply first aid to common recreation injuries, and (3) practicing keeping calm while administering first aid. Students will learn about applying ice, compression, elevation, and resting injured areas per the PRICED method as well as avoiding heat, alcohol, running, and massage in the first 48-72 hours per the HARM procedure. The class will practice splinting and immobilizing fractures and treating sprains and strains.

(_10_mins) Each grouped is given a Puzzled picture. (Sports)
After they complete the picture they are going to discuss with their group mates the
following:
1. List down some injuries that can happen during this recreational activity.
They are going to paste it in front of the class.
4.3. Analysis What have you observed on the activity?
What injuries are very common during recreational activities?
( 5_mins.) Did you how to apply first aid on these injuries?
Would you like to learn on the techniques on applying first aid?

4.4. Abstraction Injury First Aid with PRICED (Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression,
(_20_mins.) Elevation)
The primary treatment to stop swelling of injured soft tissue is with the PRICED method.
 PROTECTION
Protection means stopping activity immediately and protect the injured part from
additional damage.
 REST
Rest the area to allow the tissues time to heal.
 ICE
Applying cold therapy (ice or an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel) to an acute injury
reduces swelling and pain. Ice is a vaso-constrictor. It causes the blood vessels to narrow
and limits internal bleeding at the injury site. Apply cold to the affected area every two
hours for no more than 20 minutes at a time. Allow the skin temperature to return to
normal before icing a again. You can ice an acute injury several times a day for up to three
days.
 COMPRESSION
Compression of an acute injury is perhaps the next most important immediate treatment
tip. By quickly wrapping the injured body part with an elastic bandage or wrap, you help
keep swelling to a minimum. If possible, it's helpful to apply ice to the injured area over
the compression wrap to limit the swelling.
 ELEVATION
Elevating the injured area is another way to reduce the blood flow and swelling to the area.
 DIAGNOSIS
Acute Injuries should be evaluated by health-care professionals.

HARM is a first aid acronym that stands for Heat, Alcohol, Running, Massage. Avoid each
of these four factors during the first 48 to 72 hours after an injury to allow your recovery to
begin.
1. Heat - Despite what you may have heard, heat can aggravate a soft tissue injury.
Heat can increase swelling and bleeding so don’t apply heat packs, hot rubs and
swap a hot, soaking bath with a warm, quick shower.
2. Alcohol - Similar to heat, alcohol can increase the swelling and bleeding. Keep up
your fluids with water.
3. Running - If you’re injured rest, don’t keep playing. You can aggravate an injury
and increase swelling or bleeding. Stop exercising that part of your body and check
with a professional when you can resume.
4. Massage - Don’t massage the site of an injury as it can aggravate the injured tissue.

First aid for sprains and strains

 Follow the RICED management plan:
 Rest the patient and the injury
 Apply an icepack (cold compress) wrapped in a wet cloth to the injury for 15
minutes every 2 hours for 24 hours and then for 15 minutes every 4 hours for
24 hours
 Apply a compression elastic bandage firmly to the injury that extends well
beyond the injury
 Elevate the injured part.
 Seek medical aid.
First aid for Fractures
 Follow the RICED management plan:
 Immobilize the injured area. Don't try to realign the bone or push a bone
that's sticking out back in. If you've been trained in how to splint and
professional help isn't readily available, apply a splint to the area above and
below the fracture sites. Padding the splints can help reduce discomfort.
If there is an open fracture, cover it with clean gauze pad and apply pressure to
stop bleeding.

4.5. Application 1. The class is grouped into 2.

(__5_mins.) 2. Demonstrate the procedure on applying first aid.
5. Assessment 1-6. What are the techniques used in PRICED procedure?
( _10_mins.) 7-10. What are the techniques used in HARM Procedure?

6. Assignment No assignment
(__min.)
7. Wrap- up/ Before you leave arrange the chairs and pick some garbage’s .
