Cog SAQ and ERQ List
Cog SAQ and ERQ List
GENERIC QUESTIONS:
SAQ:
1.Explain the use of one research method in one study of cognitive processes.
‘Explain’ requires detail of the method chosen and reason(s) why it is chosen.
ERQ:
1.Discuss the use of one or more research methods using the cognitive approach to
understand human behaviour.
2.Discuss the ethical considerations relevant to using a cognitive approach to
studying human behaviour.
COGNITIVE PROCESSES
SAQ:
1. Describe /Explain one memory model, using one example of relevant research
to support your answer.
‘Describe’ requires that you give a detailed account of the memory model, using a
study to support your answer.
ERQ:
1 . Evaluate one theory or model of one cognitive process, with reference to
relevant research.
With ‘evaluate’ you need to discuss the strengths and limitations of the theory or
model, and when you evaluate the research, make it relevant to your evaluation of
the theory or model.
2.Explain one bias in thinking and decision-making, using one piece of relevant
research.
‘Explain’ requires you to give a detailed account including reasons or causes. You
must therefore make a link between the bias and how it affects thinking and
decision-making, using an example of relevant research.
4. Explain one theory of how emotion may affect one cognitive process, using one
study.
ERQ:
1.To what extent is memory reconstructive?
‘To what extent’ requires a conclusion: how strong is the argument that memory is
reconstructive, and what might other arguments be? Opinions and conclusions
should be presented clearly and supported with appropriate evidence and sound
argument.
3.To what extent does emotion influence one or more cognitive processes?
‘To what extent’ requires a conclusion: consider the merits of an argument that
emotion influences memory, and/or thinking and decision-making. Use the ideas of
the affect heuristic, flashbulb memory and emotion and intuitive thinking.
6. Evaluate one theory of how emotion may affect one cognitive process.
