Description
In this lesson, the students learn about unreal conditions in the past. The lesson starts with a warmer about the most important moments in people's lives.. The students listen to the people
who talk about the important moments in their lives and choose the correct answer. This is followed by a guided discovery activity where the students read a thrid conditional sentence and
answer the questions about the meaning of the sentence. Finally there is some controlled and semi controlled practice through sentence reformulation, and then free practice via a
speaking activity.

Main Aims
To provide clarification and practice of third conditional in the context of the most important moments in life

Sub Aims
To provide specific information listening practice using a text about important moments

Background

Class Profile
The students in this class are between 20-60. Most of them are retired and they are self-motivated. They are eager to learn and work collaboratively. Most of the students are visual and
tactile, so they, especially kinaesthetic learners, may become bored more quickly than other students while listening to a class lecture. Hands-on activities will enhance learning in this
class.

Assumptions
I assume that the students, having previously worked with the second conditional and wish, will have little trouble with the grammar of the third conditional (would have done). I assume
that they will be able to talk about the important moments in their lives. Moreover, based on the previous lessons, I assume that they will be able to talk about their regrets in the past and
how they could change them.

Personal Aims
In this lesson, I am going to achieve my main and sub aims, reduce my TTT and give very clear instructions by using ICQs if needed. I am going to give my students enough time to think
about their answers while I elicit the words.I am going to spend my time more efficiently on WC feedback if my activities are related to my main lesson aim. I am going to be careful while
monitoring the ss and try to stand in the middle of the class while giving instructions. I am not going to forget to give the instructions before handing out the worksheets.

Timetable Fit
The duration of this lesson is 45 minutes. In the previous lesson, they learnt about abilities and reported speech. The next lesson, they will prcatice their writing skills through a reading
text.
Background
Anticipated Problems & Solutions
Problem: Students may confuse the 2nd conditional with the 3rd conditional and overuse the form of the 2nd contional when they talk about unreal conditions in the past.
Solution: Give two same examples both in type1 and type2 and compare them to clarify the difference in the meaning.
Problem: Students may struggle pronuncing the contractions.
Solution: Drill the sentences and encourage them to use it.
Problem: Students may confuse the "If only" with "type 3".
Solution: Explain both of them often contain a strong element of regret but "If only" is the same as "I wish" and doesn't frequently require a second clause, whereas type 3 is speculating
about how things might be altered if something had or hadn't happened in a different way.
