Liturgical Calendar

• It is a special cycle
implemented by the Church
which determines the dates of
feast days of the Church.
• It also guides what colour,
readings or decorations should
be used by the Church.
Advent Season
Advent

• Came from the latin word,


“Adventus” and “Advenire”
which means, “coming.”
• It is a 4-week celebration for
the preparation of the birth of
Jesus.
• COLOR: Violet – waiting

the Lord’s passion and
death.
•The 40-day celebration was
originated from the prayer
and fasting of Jesus in the
desert.

Sunday), it is the season
wherein the Church covers
all the images with violet
cloth.

“mandate” or “command.”
•It commemorates the events
of washing of the feet (Jn.
13:4-5) and last supper.

• It is the celebration wherein we


commemorate the ultimate
sacrifice of Jesus Christ by His
death on the cross.
• Mass is forbidden on this day.
• COLOR: Red
Holy Saturday
• It is the time wherein in our
silence, we reflect.
• On its evening, we celebrate
the Easter Vigil Mass – the
celebration of Christ’s
resurrection.
• COLOR (Easter Vigil) – White
or Gold

• It is the highest celebration in
the Holy Catholic Church
wherein we commemorate
Christ’s resurrection.
• It consist of 50 days.
• It ends on the celebration of

and it ends in the
