In this particular subject, you are required to submit an electronic copy of your
assignments. These assignments are to be submitted to a website called Turn-It-In, where
the work will be checked for plagiarism. Your subject outline gives a full description as to
what constitutes plagiarism, in its many forms.
Prior to your submission of your first assignment, you will be registered as a student in
your given class with Turn-It-In. Turn-It-In will send you a notification that you have been
enrolled to your Holmesglen Student e-mail address and, should you be a new student,
they will also notify you of your own individual password.
The system has been set that will enable you to check an Originality Report of your work.
The first time that you do this, the response time from Turn-It-In will be relatively short,
however, should you decide to change your work before final submission, the response
time checking originality can take a couple of hours.
To ensure that false readings are kept to a minimum, please take note of the following:
• Make sure that you reference any quoted material using the Holmesglen style guide
(APA basis).
• Always put quoted work in “inverted commas”
• Do not submit your Declaration front sheet (cover sheet) with your electronic copy
• Do not start by stating the question as outlined in the assignment.

It is strongly recommended that students use a program called EndNote, as you construct
your essay. Do not leave referencing to the final draft of your essay. EndNote / Cite While
You Write Microsoft Word plug-in are software tools for publishing and managing
bibliographies, meaning that you do not have to manually type out all citations,
bibliographies and other references.
You can read more about EndNote on the Information Commons (Holmesglen library)

Please note, that where plagiarism between students is detected, both the person that
has copied work and the person that has supplied it will be penalised.
Citation and research must be of an academic standard. Academic sources may include
peer reviewed journal articles, text books, legislation, among others. Newspapers and
broader media are acceptable but rate lower. As you are expected to do an appropriate
amount of research and reading, you may not cite from course notes or non academic
sources (ie: Wikipedia). While there is no strict minimum number of acceptable
references, poorly supported essays will be penalised. Essays submitted with less than 7
academic sources may be penalised.
Should any student have difficulties in lodging their assignment on Turn-It-In, send it as an
attachment in an email addressed to the Subject Coordinator
[email protected] with your name and the class that you are in, before the
end of the due date, and the assignment will be submitted.
