Slime Science Experiment
Slime Science Experiment
Research:
The origin of the word slime probably came from Old English word slime – which means “sticky
on slime substance.”
The world’s biggest slime was made by Maddie Rae, who made 6 tons of slime at a Play Fair
Convention and Expo in New York, USA. This weighs more than a bull elephant!
If slime contains borax, it will not go bad at all.
You should throw away slime if it has mold or if it is drying out.
Refrigerated slime can last for a few weeks.
Slime can last for months in a plastic bag that is sealed. (Ziploc)
Slime definition: A moist and soft substance, sometimes gooey
Borax is also called Sodium Borate, Sodium Tetraborate, or Disodium Tetraborate
Borax is an important boron compound.
Slime is a unique plastic made of polymers and polyvinyl.Type equation here.
Borax dissolves in water
Borax consists of small colorless crystals
Borax melts at 1,369 degrees Fahrenheit or 742.7778 degrees Celsius
Borax is not boric acid, even though it sounds like it.
If you knead lotion into slime, it will become less sticky.
Borax is natural and does not carry poisons or cancer. Baking soda makes slime less sticky if you
knead it in.
Slime is mainly popular because its satisfying feel brings joy. It is a cold and sticky substance,
which makes it more satisfying.
Slime is a non-Newtonian fluid that is not a liquid or a solid.
Borax is used to: get rid of mold and mildew, it can kill insects such as ants, it is sometimes used
in laundry detergent, and it is also used to neutralize odors and soften hard water.
Hypothesis:
AC,TVT, AC, PK, ZG:, We thought that borax wouldwill make the slime stretchierb stretchier.
1
2-3 Cups Shaving Cream.
1.5 tablespoons Contact Lens Solution **Important: your brand of contact lens solution must have boric
acid and sodium borate in the ingredient list. This is what interacts with the glue to form the slime.
combine 1/4 cup of white glue and 1 tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent. Stir to
combine, then wait a few minutes for it to turn gooey. If you want to make colored
slime, stir in a few drops of food coloring into the glue before you add the detergent.

Rationale:
The reason we are doing this experiment is because we want to make slime more enjoyable and fun. We
will add different compounds to maybe make the slime more elastic or maybe something different
because remember, accident is very good inventor. We very hope that we will have an experiment will
give us information and good results. We all know that not every experiment is perfect. We hope that
kids (or adults) might enjoy slime more. Therefore, we want to do this experiment.
Supplies:
Order supplies
➢ Glue
➢ Baking Soda
➢ Water
➢ Bowls
Steps:
1. Knead 1 tsp Borax and a 7oz cup of water together thoroughly to make a control.
2. Put the control in a plastic Ziploc and name the bag control.
3. Knead 1 tsp Borax, 7 oz water, and 1 tsp baking soda together to make mix number two.
3
4. Put the mixture in a plastic bag and name it baking Soda.
5. Knead 1tsp Borax, 7oz water, and 1tsp glue into the bowl.
Conclusion:
There was borax in all of four bad slimes it was borax that causing the eggyness. When we didn’t add the
borax, our slime stretched over 6 meters! Our super slime ingredients were one 4th cup of glue, 1 4th tsp of
baking soda, and 1 tbls spoon of eye contact solution.
