5e's Lesson Plan Final

This lesson plan teaches students about percentiles for grouped data through engaging activities. Students will watch a video, work in groups to complete a table, and calculate percentiles. The teacher will explain key concepts like what percentiles mean and how to calculate them. Students will practice finding the 10th, 70th, and 94th percentiles for a set of grouped data to demonstrate their understanding.

5E’s Lesson Plan for Mathematics 10

Teacher: Mr. Mohammad Ali E. Pilas

Date: 03/06/2020

Subject / grade level: Mathematics 10 (statistic) / Grade 10

Materials: Mathematics Learner’s Module for Grade 10 pages 390-39

Carolina, Manila paper, Chalkboard and Construction Paper

Lesson objectives:
 Identify percentiles for grouped data and its key concepts.
 Solve the value of the specific percentile for grouped data.
 Develop patience and perseverance in finding the percentiles for grouped data.

Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs

Engagement
Students will view a video on percentile of grouped data to understand real world
examples. What other examples in your daily lives might you apply percentile? Why
would it be important to know?

Exploration
Students will be group into two and complete the table below.

CI f LB <cf
46-50 4
41-45 8
36-40 11
31-35 9
26-30 12
21-25 6
When the table is completed the teacher will present the solutions on the board to show
the use of percentile formula. What are the important things we should consider to
compute the percentile of a given data?

Explanation
Teacher will ask questions below. After each question is answered, the teacher will write
the interpretation on the board.
 What is percentile mean?
 In determining the percentile of the nth in a given data, what are the important
values to be consider?
 And if you already determine the result, what does it mean?

Elaboration
Percentile
fPk = frequency of the Pk class
i = size of class interval
k = nth percentile, where n = 1,2,3,....,97,98, and 99

Students will be able to see a connection of percentile to real world application such as
finding how many percent of the students will be passing in the examination using
percentile.

Evaluation

Calculate the 10th, 70th, and 94th percentile of the following grouped data.

Class Interval f
110-119 2
100-109 5
90-99 10
80-89 14
70-79 16
60-69 10
50-59 8
N = 65
