“Nothing happens unless first a dream. Our decision, not the conditions of our lives
determines our destiny.”
This has always been the guiding line of my life. I feel life and God have been very kind to me
providing me with all that I always needed. I think of myself as a simple, uncomplicated and a
very humble human being. Thanks to the simple upbringing provided to me by my parents.
Consequently, I have always tried to have a simple uncomplicated outlook towards the world and
that is how I like it.
It is with a sincere sense of gratitude towards the opportunity given to me, I pen down this
statement. Education not only expands the horizons of one’s knowledge but also simultaneously
implants an insatiable desire to acquire more and more knowledge. Knowledge is that which can
enhance the strength of mind and thereby expand the intellect of man. It is that which can transcend
the limits of the time and take mankind beyond those limits to the timeless eternity. The
knowledge, which science and technology had provided for the mankind has always fascinated me
and had left an indelible impression on my mind to envisage my goals and aims ahead.
Today as a 26-year-old individual I perceive that life for me has been a process of conscious
evolution. The most integral part of this growth is the value system taught to me by my parents,
teachers and mentors combined with a natural curiosity for science. This played a vital role in my
decision making for the future. However, my liking for science has guided me into pursuing a
Bachelor degree in Electronics Instrumentation & Control (EIC) Engineering at GCT, Jaipur,
India. This decision gave me ample opportunity to consolidate my creative energies and harness
my technical skills.
The four years of undergraduate education have been a great learning and enriching process for
me. I have thorough knowledge of fundamentals of Electronics Instrumentation & Control
Engineering especially in the fields of Electronic Devices and Circuits, Digital Circuits, Control
Systems and Transducers Engineering. I am fully acquainted with the fast growing subjects like
Communication Engineering, Signals & Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Microprocessors,
Linear and Digital Integrated Circuits. I have also been made acquainted with programming
languages like C & C++ and operating systems as Windows.
In Bachelor Degree, environment was intensely competitive, and where research goes hand-in-
hand with learning, I also got a lot of drill in both theoretical research work and implementation,
thus laying a sound foundation for graduate study. The final year project was very interesting. It
is my work on Design of Automatic Irrigation System with GSM Technology. It gave me immense
pleasure to do a hands-on practical work on irrigation system using GSM technique.
My academic and co-curricular record has been consistently good. Throughout school as well as
now, I have been at or near the top of my class. I have listed some of my achievements, on the
attached resume. What I would like to stress most however is the fact that I have been consistent
in all academic as well as co-curricular (and even Extracurricular) tasks that I have undertaken. I
have always loved problems which involve plenty of visualization.
It would be a cliché to say that all fields in Instrumentation and Control are highly interlinked. I
have experienced this myself, since frequently, while working on a problem in one field, I have
(through abstraction, reduction or analogy) landed up looking at another problem, that one would
normally put under a different field altogether. Hence, the criteria that I considered while selecting
an Institute for my PhD, were the Institute must be very strong in Instrumentation and Control. My
Master’s thesis guide, Dr. Poonam Syal also strongly recommended it.
There is one more and the most compelling reason. During Masters, my guide and I were
concentrating on developing an automated Energy Efficient lighting system while taking
consideration on visual and thermal comfort. I have worked in the area of 'Energy Efficient
Systems'. My thesis work is based on the system using an open-source electronics platform based
on hardware and software while working on light sensing and temperature sensing for a room
environment. Thesis Title: “Design and Implementation of Energy Efficient Intelligent Lighting
System.”
I am applying what I have learnt so far but as the world changes each hour, I want to stay up to the
mark and this is what I expect I can do from my higher education. It’ll give me insight to wider
perspectives and implementations of what this world needs and where we can take it through our
talent.
The joy of discovery is certainly the liveliest, that the mind of man can ever feel and happy is he
who gets to know the reason for things. It happened that, the tarmac for attaining my target is well
paved from my schooling and so I desire for a Ph.D. program in has stress on research studies on
various nuance of Ph.D. in sensor field & Instrumentation. I am sure to attain my true potential
that would help me pursue further research in the future. I am sure that my aptitude and drive will
see me through the challenges and keep to your expectation.
I plan to carry on the advanced study of Instrumentation and Control & sensor field with
automation, as well as related fields not only through coursework but also by participating online
in one of the several ongoing projects. This will also give me the opportunity to contribute my bit
to the understanding of the fields which interest me so much. I am keen that the output of my Ph.D.
and in fact, any Ph.D., be well worth the time and effort spent on it. For the reasons mentioned
above, I am sure that your Research Institute will provide me the right environment for this.
Financial Aid
I would be fully dependent on aid to finance my Ph.D. studies. If I am granted a fellowship, then
given my long-term goals, a research fellowship would be an ideal experience for me. I also have
some experience as Project Assistant. Not only have I enjoyed it, but the Project Head have also
appreciated it. This makes me confident that I will be a good Researcher also.
In conclusion
I am aware that your Research Institute expects very high standards from its students. On my part,
I can assure you of hard work. I believe that my enthusiasm will enable me to meet those
expectations. My consistency in all previous academic and co-curricular activities is what gives
me confidence when I say this.
I am eagerly looking forward to a long and mutually profitable association with your Institute. I
would like to conclude by requesting you to grant me a visa for the above said reasons and help
me to enlighten my future while working on this project.
