This programme is "Stand Alone" I.e. you do not need to use the other programme functio
the Programme Summary format.
1. Enter the Well Data and Interval Data at the top of the sheet. Make sure you enter the
interval length from #,### ft to #,### ft. As this calculates hole data below.
2. You may find it useful to use "Hole and Casing Volume" to generate the volumes requi
section , although note Open Hole Volume is already calculated for you.
3. The Section Comments box is accessed by double clicking the mouse in the center of
comments as required.
4. Recommended Mud Formulation , Chemical Requirements and Contingency Chemicals

SECTION COMMENTS
The 8 1/2" section will be drilled with ULTIDRILL synthetic based mud. This section has the same mud weight of 1.55 s.g. as the
previous 12 1/4" section. The mud weight of 1.63 s.g. is designed as being 200 psi above the P50 Upper MSM pressure case of
6,600 psi (with the riser off , 475 psi with the riser on). This applied pressure of 7075 psi is below the P05 formation pressure
case of 7,500 psi. If this pressure is encountered the mud weight will be raised to a maximum of 1.85 s.g. resulting in the 7"
drilling liner being set in the B Shale between the upper and lower MSM. If the mud weight of 1.63 s.g. can be maintained both
the upper and lower MSM will be drilled and the liner will be set in the LKCF Shale above the LK80. IDCARB sweeps should be
run every stand (30 bbls 40 ppb IDCARB 75/150) and fluid loss should be maintained below 2.0 mls using Soltex and TRUFLO
100.

ULTIDRILL EM
a Pseudo Oil Based mud which has the performance of an oil based mud but with
ffset data indicates that there should be no hole problems whilst drilling through
daland / Hordaland Shales. The use of Ultidrill will eliminate clay hydration and
al for pressure related instability. The mud weight gradient will also help ensure
Nordaland Shales. The water phase will be maintained in the range 160 mg/l to 180
whilst preventing formation embrittlement. Maintaining the rheology and flow rate
ensure efficient hole cleaning. Due to the high cost of the Ultidrill POBM it is
are kept to a minimum

SECTION COMMENTS
This section will be drilled with sea water and HIVIS guar gum sweeps. A 50 bbl hivis sweeps should be pumped every 15
M (at connections and half way between connections) or more frequently if hole conditions dictate. The open hole should
be filled with 1.20 s.g. Bentonite mud prior to running the casing. This will stabilise the hole and help prevent fill. The
bentonite mud should be prehydrated at 30 ppb gel and cut back with SW prior to being required. 1635 bbls of Bentonite
will be required to displace the hole at TD. Pit management for Bentonite premix and whole mud should be carefully
calculated prior to the job and the volume required for a check trip factored in. IDVIS may be used to build viscosity and
additional mud if time limitations become a problem.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Engineers on the section : Keith Thomson/ Stuart Trotter/ John Neary/ Nozar Ras
Recommended action
Schlumberger Dowell
The 9 5/8" casing will be set in the base cretaceous (in order to mitigate against the zero kick tolerance
with 1.55 s.g. mud weight if drilling through the upper MSM with 12 1/4"). The 8 1/2" section mud
weight will be 1.63 s.g.
1.63 s.g. = 7075 psi with riser on (6,800 psi with riser off) in the upper MSM reservoir
The P 50 pressure is 6,600 psi and the P 05 pressure is 7,500 psi. The EMW is therefore 1,000 psi above
the P50 case and 1,000 psi lower than the P05 case. Revised P05 data is expected before we drill the 8
1/2" section. The nearby water injectors have been switched off to attempt to reduce the maximum
anticipated pressure. If the P05 case is encountered the mud weight will be increased to a maximum case
of 1.85 s.g. If this occurs the 7" drilling liner will be set in the B shale barrier between the upper and
lower MSM.
The 7" liner will now be set in the LKCF shale at TVD 3193m , MD 4376m (above the LK80)
The high overbalance in the MSM A could lead to differential sticking and or high mud losses. It is
essential that the following mud properties are maintained:
1. Tight fluid loss : <= 2.0 mls Regular addition of TRUFLO 100 and Soltex
2. Thin Slick filter cake : <=1 as above
3. High emulsion stability >= 400 V Maintain level of EMUL HT as programmed
4. LGS < 6.0 % w/v Use 230 mesh screens throughout section and
centrifuge.
The use of IDCARB sweeps throughout low pressured formation sections has been proven to be highly
effective. This will be continued in this well by a programme of IDCARB sweeps to be pumped
throughout the depleted / low pressure zone:

Hole Cleaning
Hole Cleaning
The 8 1/2 section will be at approx. 45 deg. throughout , there is therefore a significant chance of
cuttings bed formation. Good hole cleaning practices should be maintained and the ROP / Flow rate
recommendations shown below adhered to.

The following load out is for guidance purposes only. The actual load out should be generated
by the drilling team offshore. Orders should be discussed with Dowell onshore first to ensure
maximum efficiency in logistics. The drill rep. will place orders with SF materials who will
place the order on Dowell Drilling Fluids. Actual load out should take into account materials already
on board

Notes:
1. The above scenario assumes that a single cut and pull is made. If multiple cuts are made , the degree of contamination of the WBM will increase
with the number of cut and pull operations. In each case , the Displaced Petrofree and heavily contaminated WBM each side of the slug
should be isolated from the active WBM system in order to minimise contamination of the whole active system.
2. It is almost certain that at least 400 bbls of Petrofree / WBM mix will be produced , and possibly the entire WBM system will be contaminated.
From a pit logistics perspective and the requirment to clean the pits after WBM prior to ULTIDRILL. The backload of WBM and the load out of ULTDRILL
would proceed as follows:
a, Surface Volume of contaminated mud backloaded and uncontaminated WBM dumped
b, Surface Pits for ULTIDRILL cleaned
c, Approx 1000 bbls ULTIDRILL taken on board in clean pits
d, Displace Hole to ULTIDRILL , take contaminated WBM to "dirty" pits
