Abstract:
Vendors performance impacts the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation directly and indirectly. The
study aims to identify the best practices of supply in logistics department at Big Bazaar, Coimbatore. The main
objective of the research is to evaluate vendors and to ensure a portfolio of best in class vendors are available for the
supply. After review of related literature, Weighted Average method for rating vendors for different product categories
is selected. The performance of vendors is evaluated using five main criteria namely: Quality, Price, Delivery, Service
and Credit Period and 11 sub criteria under these five criteria. Coefficient of variation is calculated for the vendors to
ensure their quality of supply. Based on the idealised score, appropriate vendor for each product category is found.
Ranking is given based on the mean scores obtained by vendors during the period of six months. Vendors are classified
into three classes based on their mean ratings. The comparison between the sales performance of Vendors and
Warehouse products is interpreted using Gap Analysis to know the preference of products towards customers at Big
Bazaar.
