Education in Islam

The content of the article is about impotance of education, type of knowledge,


education at the basic level, educational at advanced level, and some more suggertions from
the authors.

The first point of the article, the authors discuss about the importance of education.
Education has a correlation with knowledge and knowledge has a correlation with read. On
Islam, the first rule from God to Rasulullah SAW is for read. We can see at Q.S. Al-Alaq 1-5.
Rasulullah SAW also emphasized the seeking knowledge. Every Muslim have the duty for
seeking of knowledge from the cradie to the grave. We can seeking knowledge on all place.
On hadist as mentioned “Seeking of knowledge even if it is far as China”. The prophet of
Islam not only emphasize about the importance of knowledge, he also gave examples of
promoting knowledge.

At the second, the authors telling about type of knowledge. On Islamic perspective,
knowledge divided into two kinds. Its secular knowledge and religion knowledge. But, in a
while Muslim get the backwardness on education. Its ‘cause the Muslim lost leadership in
the physical science and technology and also the invasion by the Mongols.

In the third, the authors disscus corncern education at the basic level. There are two
solution to combine the religions and secular education. It is a short solution and long
solution. For short solution, we can send the children into two different class. The children
should going to public or private school to get secular education, and they should join the
religion class in sunday school or summer programs. And there are a long solution for this
case, we can build islamic school. Why? ‘Cause it can make the Muslim students get a good
quality of religion knowledge. However, when the Muslim children join Islamic school, they
InsyaaAllah can combined and integrated the seculer science with religious science

At the fourth chapter, Sayyid Muhammahad Rizvi talked there is not solution of
education at advance level. There are two manners that can use to bridging ulama and the
scientist on intellectual. For a short term, they sholud be create a good interaction maybe with
dialogue and discussion. And the long term, ulama should be open minded with the modern
scientific issues and the muslim scientists must familiar with basic text of islam, Qur’an and
hadith. This chapter also telled about the step as getted by scientist for study the Islamic text
as concern on scientific issues.
At the last chapter, He talked about his organization The Shiah community of North America
can take care of the children. He also give a light, if we have to select between wealth and
knowledge, we should select knowledge. ‘cause knowledge is everlasting, it always increase
if you use in your life.

Point of view from the reader:

After read the article as written by Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi, I can conclude that education is
very important for our life. Why? ‘cause, if we haven’t a knowledge
