History
In
the year 2010, the brand OPPO created a sub-brand of smartphones called OPPO Real. In the year 2018,
the brand was spun off into its own separate brand Realme – still under the China-based multinational
firm BBK Electronics, just like OPPO. Realme was established as an “independent brand” by former
OPPO overseas business department head and vice president of OPPO, Sky Li.
The brand was established on May 4, 2018, but there was a bit of a transition point between “realme”
as it’s own brand and “realme” without the very obvious OPPO tie. If you look at the Realme 1, for
example, you’ll see the “realme” brand at the back, just above the center of the phone, while the OPPO
brand is centered near the bottom.
After establishing the brand officially, but before holding any major press conference for any new
product on their own, Realme launched a sizeable collection of products in a relatively short amount of
time. From May 15, 2008, to May 15, 2019, Realme launched Realme 1, 2, 2 Pro, C1, C2, 3, and 3 Pro.
May 15, 2019 was the first official Realme press conference the company held in Beijing, China, where
they launched the Realme X collection. This was the company’s official sign of entry into the Chinese
market, where previous phones were focused primarily in India to face off directly against the Xiaomi-
launched brand Redmi.
As Realme, as of press time for this article, Realme launched Realme 5, 5 Pro, XT before the end of
2019.
Counterpoint Research released a Q2 2019 Smartphone Shipment Market Share analysis which counted
Realme as an independent brand from the time Realme spent under OPPO (since May 2018). As such,
said tracking showed shipments from the brand Realme (independent of OPPO) as growing 848% from
Q2 2018 to Q2 2019.

Realme 1 #StayReal:
RealMe, the e-commerce sub-brand of smartphone giant OPPO, has been pitted as one of the most
sought after phones in the mid-range segment ever since its recent launch. Since inception, the brand
has always been aggressive in its approach, be it the price-performance ratio, marketing or the tonality
of its campaigns. In fact, the brand’s latest campaign #StayReal continues the media battle against
competition’s #RealYou with its tongue in cheek approach.
The #StayReaI campaign’s catchy slogans clearly put forward the RealMe 1’s strengths and taps into
competition’s weakness like pixelated screens, outdate designs and processors. It highlights Realme 1’s
6.0”FHD+Full screen, World’s first 12nm AI CPU MediaTek Helio P60 together with AI Shot Technology
that enhances the processing speed, improves performance by 50% and offers up to 25% power
efficiency. It also proudly showcases its unique and attractive Diamond Black design, inspired by
Sapphire, emphasizing on the brand’s style quotient as opposed to the outdated designs present in the
market.
#StayReal not only engages its customers with its catchy creatives but also showcases RealMe1’s
superiority in terms of competition.
Realme 2 | 2 Pro #ProudToBeYoung
16
Realme’s philosophy is best expressed in its slogan, ‘Proud to be Young’. It shares the same outlook as
the opinionated, unperturbed young generation of today – that youth is too precious to be wasted in
mediocrity. Recently, the brand unveiled an interesting video to give an idea of the smartphone’s
philosophy. Although the video doesn’t give away much regarding the spec-sheet and looks, it gives a
clear idea of what the brand thinks and how it resonates with the youth.
With stunning visuals and an energetic voiceover, the video communicates that youth is a journey to
seek the exquisite, the ultimate style. That youth is about finding, creating, and keeping it real. Shot in
New York, the video features 3 youngsters among which is an Indian boy who studies in New York City.
Despite his educational commitments, he chose to follow his passion for boxing and continued
practising after school. His zeal to work towards his dreams never stopped him from winning accolades
even in the foreign city.
This implies that youth is about being your own captain, your own coach and keep moving forward,
obeying your own rules. It is about shining in your own style and being unafraid of ceaseless desire. It is
about being a conqueror, a game-changer, a winner, and being proud to be young. This i is shot from
Realme’s perspective and it is amazing how well it understands the young people of today.
Realme is marketing their phones as “Power meets Style.” The Realme 2 Pro is taking care of the power
part with a Snapdragon 660 processor, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of internal storage which is
expandable up to 256GB thanks to a microSD card slot. It has a 3500mAh battery to power you through
the day. There will also be 4GB and 6GB RAM variants .
Realme C1 #PowerMeetStyle
17
The smartphone is the embodiment of Realme’s tagline “Power Meets Style”, which makes it the ideal
launchpad of Realme Philippines. Realme C1 unites performance and design that cater to the
requirements set by the Filipino youth. But even with its revolutionary features, the Realme C1 remains
affordable.
Realme aims to be the brand that will go perfectly with the lifestyle of today’s youth. The develop
phones that reflect the personality, style, vibe, and aesthetics of the user, which make the phone on-
trend and in sync with the times.
More so, it also comes face to face with the uproar and excellent smartphones with its large notch full-
screen, making it the first in its price segment to have such. With a compact earpiece, front camera and
light sensor, the phone can achieve a 19:9 screen display ratio.
To give their users an immersive visual experience, the phone has a 6.2” screen that permits a wide
viewing angle, making it ideal for an afternoon of gaming or an evening of movies.
In this hyper-connected world, multitasking has a whole new meaning with mobile communication,
entertainment, social media, work, and studies. What the world needs is a phone that can do double
duties and multitask for long periods.
With a 4,230mAh mega battery, the Realme C1 does precisely this, which makes it a game-changer in
the entry-level smartphone segment. The Realme C1 is the only smartphone within its price range that
has a powerful battery that is capable of supporting 44 hours of phone calls, 18 hours of music playback
with Wi-Fi and 10 hours gaming.
The smartphone also has core power-saving features, such as App-freezing Power Saver and Quick App
Freezing, for more hours of usage. When turned on, these features save 5% to 11% of the battery, which
enables the users to play and still have enough battery to last them a day.

a new
version of
their "Entry
Level
King" here
in the
Philippines.
Following its local launch last June 2019, Realme C2 achieved massive success in our country largely
because of its low price tag matched with more than decent technical specifications.
Hot on the heels of this model's stellar market performance, Realme is releasing a improved rendition of
the C2 without increasing its wallet-friendly price tag. To put it simply, the two versions of Realme C2
2020 have double the internal storage all while still having the same SRPs as the initial release.
Whereas the first Realme C2 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM sold for PHP 5,490, Realme C2 2020 with 2GB RAM
+ 32GB ROM will sell for exactly the same amount. In the same way, Realme C2 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM
had a price tag of PHP 6,490 upon launch and the new Realme C2 3GB RAM + 64GB ROM dons just the
same SRP.

successfully proven itself as an entry-level disruptor by changing Filipinos’ expectation of a budget
smartphone, its revamped version, the Realme C2 2020, will show more of its capacity in storing more
data and mobile applications to perfectly fit the Filipino youth’s lifestyle."
He added, "We at Realme Philippines are keen to give our fans and supporters the real value that they
deserve by offering powerful yet attainable products."
If you're wondering, Realme C2 2020 has the exact same design language, build, and technical
specifications - apart from internal storage - compared to its predecessor.
This revamp still has the same 6.1-inch HD+ IPS Display with Dewdrop Notch, 5 MegaPixel f/2.0 selfie
cam in front, 13 MP f/2.2 + 2MP Depth Sensor Dual Rear Camera Module, Dual nanoSIM slots, dedicated
microSD card slot, microUSB port, 4G LTE support, Facial Recognition, and large 4,000 Li-Po battery pack.
Inside its sleek polycarbonate shell replete with ultra-thin line imprints forming the shape of diamonds,
Realme C2 2020 runs its ColorOS 6 customized Android 9.0 Pie operating system with a an energy-
efficient 12nm Octa Core MediaTek Helio P22 processor that incorporates a PowerVP GE8320 processor

Ready to lead in the midrange smartphone segment, realme Philippines introduces the latest addition to
its lineup, the realme 3 Pro. Packed with outstanding smartphone essentials such as optimal system
performance, superior cameras, and long battery life, the #RealGamingPro is a champion designed to
elevate the midrange experience.
In order to give the fans and audience a first-hand look and experience of the gaming capabilities of the
device, a Mobile Legends tournament was held after the reveal of the realme 3 Pro, making it the first
smartphone launch in the Philippines that hosted a mobile gaming tournament.
The realme 3 Pro runs on a powerful Snapdragon 710 processor that can significantly accelerate the
performance of AI-based applications and ensure smart power efficiency for a bug-free and optimized
smartphone experience. The impressive processor is supported by RAM and storage huge for this price
segment — 4GB RAM+64GB storage and 6GB RAM+128GB storage — guaranteed to rev up the device
for full gaming speed. To further embody the promise of gaming power and speed, the phone’s
aesthetic combines a good mix of racing elements and Le Mans track.
Raising the bar even higher for midrange smartphones is the realme 3 Pro’s imaging features. The phone
has a combination of 16MP+5MP rear shooter camera supported by a Sony IMX 519 image sensors. Its
selfie camera supports 25MP. It also packs the two unique camera features of the realme 3 — Chroma
Boost mode, which optimizes photos and produces a richer color presentation, and the upgraded Super
Nightscape, which smartly adjusts the exposure of images taken with extremely dim lighting.
The realme 3 Pro ensures many hours of use with its 4045mAh large-capacity battery, the biggest
capacity in its price range. It also carries the brand-new VOOC 3.0 technology with a 20W (5V4A)
charging power for efficient power transformation and charging speed.
“We see how mobile gaming continues to gain traction here in the Philippines and want to support the
goal of a growing number of Filipinos to become gaming legends. With the realme 3 Pro, we know we
have just the right device to help them be the gaming pros that they truly are. The realme 3 Pro is finally

cost you diamonds. Be the champs you aspire to be with our #RealGamingPro,” shares Jacky Chen,
realme Philippines Chief Operating Officer.
Realme 5 | 5 Pro #LeapToQuadCamera

Ever since Realme stepped into
the Indian smartphone market,
the brand has been a real pain for
its competition. For a company so
young, the brand already has a big
chunk of market share and is well
ahead of some very well known
brands. And it has done this by
following a very Xiaomi-like
strategy of bundling relatively
high-end specs with competitive
price tags. But unlike Xiaomi that
did not invest in traditional means
of marketing (read “ads”) for a while, Realme seems less averse to the joys of advertising. To mark the
launch of the Realme 5 series, the company has released an ad on its YouTube channel, highlighting the
features of the smartphones.
Everything, right from the core idea to the execution of the ad is outdated. Yes, the ad did feature the
smartphones and the rap did highlight the features that they come with but other than that, it really
seems like one of those ads from a couple of decades ago and am not sure one that you would not want
to see twice – the ones where a cool dude becomes hot because of a product he is using.
The idea of having “cool looking” girls and guys dancing around while a guy raps about how great the
phones are, in itself is a little too simplistic. And it is not very well executed either. Yes, the ad has very
upbeat music to which people were dancing and rapping, but it all seemed a little forced and contrived.
It is not as if we have not seen ads with music and dance before – Apple created an ad for the first-
generation AirPods featuring dancer Lil Buck dancing on the song “Down” by Marian Hill. It remains one
of our favorite tech ads but this one was nothing like it. Even the rap with the phone features was not
really catchy. We know this is the TikTok generation but one cannot just pass off anything in the name of
song and dance under the guise of following trends.
What really struck a jarring note for us was the picture it tries to paint of the “millennials” or the “cool
young crowd.” The extremely bright colors, the girls and guys dancing to rap, is not something too many
relate to, right now – no, not even the target segment. We have seen Motorola use bright and vivid
colors too for its Moto G series, but it managed to do so in a manner that was, well, classy. Even the
production values of the ad seemed a little off at times.
While the complete rap in the ad was about the phone, it somehow did not get the center stage. With
all those people dancing and the super bright yellows and oranges, the phones literally got lost.
Over the years, we have had our share of less than memorable ads from various tech brands, and this
one by Realme goes right into that list. The ad adheres to stereotypes about millennials and youngsters,
and while it tries to make the smartphones the hero, it actually gets lost in all the singing and dancing.
Which is a pity because as our reviews of the Realme 5 series show, the phones are excellent value for
money. Realme’s products might be giving the competitor sleepless nights, but its ads have some way to
go before they can do the same. The silver lining is that there is a good chance that things can only get
better from here.
22
Realme XT #QuadCameraXpert
23
The phone also uses the Snapdragon 712 chipset, a la Realme 5 Pro. The version we reviewed had a
massive 8 GB RAM and 128 GB+ storage. The 712 is a very capable performer and seems perfect for
phones in this range, given that they may find a diverse target audience. Gamers or those watching
movies/videos will not face glitches. There is some warming up of the back panel on prolonged gaming,
however. For regular users, it is smooth sailing and the 4,000 mAh battery also keeps up with the day.
Realme’s VOOC fast charging ensures quick juicing-up. The phone gets USB Type C connectivity, like the
5 Pro.
The Color OS based on Android 9 is pretty much the same and the bloatware apps can be uninstalled.
You are also not bombarded with notifications, which is always great.
Now for the cameras. Apart from the 64 MP primary sensor, the other three lens are the same as that
on the 5 Pro — for wide-angle, macro, and depth. This means that camera features stay more or less the
same — no wide angle video, good macro given the price point, and portrait shots that are functional.
The difference is when you shoot at the full 64 MP.
The bump-up in the sensor gives you better clarity on zooming, more detail in the picture, and sharper-
looking landscape shots. Switch HDR on and shoot at 64 MP and you get huge image sizes, but useful
ones in case you want to zoom-in post shooting and get into the details and crop stuff out. It also makes
low-light photography slightly better and the Nightscape helps you shoot in the dark and the results are
decent, like they were on the 5 Pro.
The 16 MP front camera is also similar fare, and Realme says that it will get the Nightscape soon too, via
an OTA update. This is good news.
Is the Realme XT worth the few thousands more you would shell out, compared to the Realme 5 Pro?
Well, depends on how serious you are about your social media photography cred. 64 is larger than 48,
after all. And the megapixel race is heating up again. Your move, Xiaomi.
