A Read the text.

Penny was very good at sports. She swam on the swimming team in high school. She also ran on the
athletics team. She competed in every competition and began winning medals. She usually won a gold
medal, but sometimes she won a silver. She simply didn’t know how to lose! Her picture was often in
the local newspaper.
Penny really enjoyed the competitions, but she didn’t like traveling to other schools to compete. One
day, she and her teammates went to North High to compete against the team there. Everyone
expected Penny to win a medal in the 100-meter race. Unfortunately, during the race, Penny’s foot
went straight into a small hole and she fell. She got up, but her foot hurt a lot. She didn’t run in any
more competitions that month.

B Complete the text with the correct form of the verbs in brackets. Use the Past Simple.

Our family 1 WENT (go) on a great vacation last year. We 2 DID (do) so many
