Problem Set

The document contains 15 problems related to determining angular velocities, angular accelerations, linear velocities, and linear accelerations of links in mechanisms where one or more links are rotating or translating with constant angular/linear velocities or accelerations. The problems involve links in mechanisms such as slotted guide rods, rotating rods connected to collars or blocks, cranks and connecting rods in engines, and cams and followers. Key kinematic relationships between angular and linear motion are applied to solve for unknown velocities and accelerations at given time instances defined by angular positions of links.

Problem Set (DYNAMICS OF RIGID BODIES)

ABSOLUTE MOTION ANALYSIS

1. At the instant u = 60°, the slotted guide rod is moving

to the left with an acceleration of 2 m/s 2 and a velocity of

link CD at this instant.

3. Rod AB moves over a small wheel at C while end A moves to the right with a
constant velocity of 25 in./s. At the instant shown,

velocity of end B of the rod.

4. Collar B moves downward to the left with a constant

velocity of 1.6 m/s. At the instant shown when θ = 40°,

rod CD at the instant u = 30°.

7. Determine the velocity and acceleration of the follower v

attached to a block B as shown. Knowing that at the instant
shown the velocity of block B is 8 in./s to the right and
θ = 25°, determine (a) the angular velocity of gear D, (b)
