Tin To Shake, To Shake, Virtually Virtually: Eureka

The Moorabool News article discusses how local fire brigades in Ballan, Australia are adjusting their collection efforts for the annual Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal due to COVID-19 restrictions. Donations can still be made online through the "Virtual Tin Shake" website or left at the local newsagency. The Ballan fire brigades will also still respond to incidents and fires as usual but are asking community members to register any burn-offs in light of current circumstances.

Tin to shake,
virtually By Helen Tatchell

If you haven’t spent all your money on toilet paper, and you can
spare at least a gold coin, consider donating to the annual Royal
Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
Despite the regular collectors that include the Bacchus Marsh
Lions Club and the Ballan Group of fire brigades that are unable
to conduct from door to door, there are still collections points to
donate at.
Local businessman and Ballan FB Lieutenant Ian Ireland told the
Moorabool News donations can be left at the local newsagency.
“We are still collecting in that sense, just not door to door which is
due to the current COVID-19 regulations and restrictions.”
The Prime Minister and the Victorian Premier advised that we
must practice social distancing. Further to that, Victoria Police
have advised there can be no roadside collections, intersections
collections or door knocks due to the potential risk to volunteers
and the community.
“In light of this, it is with a heavy heart that we announce we will
not be allowing any collections for the Appeal this year,” David
Atterbury from Bacchus Marsh Lions said.
However, the Appeal has just launched their Virtual Tin Shake
website where CFA fire brigades have registered with donations
accepted online.
Since 1951 CFA members have proudly raised funds for the Royal
Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. In 2019 the appeal raised
$18,175,467 of which CFAs contribution was $1.6 million - almost
9 per cent. In total more than $34 million has been raised by CFA
members over the years.
Mr Ireland also mentioned the Ballan Group of brigades will still
be responding, as normal, to incidents and fires.
“As the Fire Danger Period came to an end on Monday 6 April, it
is a time to ask the community members to ensure they register all
burns to avoid the need for unnecessary Fire Brigade responses.
Mr Ireland said taking the time to register your burn will protect
brigade volunteers in the current circumstances.
Register Your Burn-Off by calling 1-800-668-511.

Thank you to those who have been diligently practicing social distancing and staying home where possible. Moorabool residents are

I know during this challenging time, it can be difficult to separate yourself physically from friends and family, but it is important that

Council support for business

Several initiatives have been launched by council’s Economic
Development team to help support local businesses affected
by the COVID-19 situation.
Last week Council launched the new COVID-19 business
information page along with the Moorabool Shire Grants
Hub.
Henry Bezuidenhout (Executive Manager Community
Planning and Economic Development) said it is imperative
the Shire’s businesses and communities have access to
COVID-19 funding.
“And this, along with access to all other Federal, State, Local,
and philanthropic/private grant programs will now be made
all the easier via a one stop shop.
“The new Moorabool Shire Grants Hub is free to use for
anyone across the Moorabool Shire community,” he said.
Key information is also being shared via the Business
Growth & Innovation – Moorabool Shire Facebook page,
along with the business eNewsletter.
A business support survey is being circulated via social
media, and within the Business Growth & Innovation
eNews, to Shire businesses, requesting industry feedback as
to impacts of COVID-19.
“We encourage business owners to complete the survey
to assist Council with determining the business impact of
COVID-19 across Moorabool Shire, and by industry sector,”
Mr Bezuidenhout said.
The survey takes around 5-10 minutes to complete and all
businesses large and small are encouraged to take part. The Plough@YourPlace, chef and owner Mark Mills, has been doing take-away dinner meals from Wednesday-Sunday,
with pickup or delivery available, since the COVID-19 regulations restricted his dine-in service at Myrniong and Trentham.

Planned information sessions for a road that
connects to The Avenue of Honour in Bacchus
Marsh have been postponed.
A spokesperson for Regional Roads Victoria said
they are “continuing our planning study for an
eastern link road at Bacchus Marsh to improve
traffic flow and safety.”
“We appreciate everyone for sharing their
thoughts and ideas on the four proposed study
areas last year and we’re continuing to review over
700 comments.
We are working with government agencies and
stakeholders to ensure we have all the technical
details we need to continue,’ they said.
The community consultations and information
sessions will help RRV identify a preferred
alignment for a new road that will connect
Gisborne Road with the Western Freeway and
Bacchus Marsh-Geelong Road, reducing through
traffic in the Bacchus Marsh town centre.
“We’re rescheduling the planned February
information sessions to run later this year when
we’ll outline next steps.”
