Stress Management
Life Skills Assignment : Program Planning

Section 2 : Young people

Through observations and assessment of characteristics the young person at my internship

deals with a lot of stress in his everyday life . Though everyday tasks and trying to remember

certain things due to the individuals short term memory loss , the individual finds it hard to

communicate properly and remember certain tasks the individual had that day making it very

stressful for them . A stress management program would be therapeutic for the individual

because it would help make his everyday tasks simpler for him and allow him to do something

he enjoys through activities that will help determine how he feels that day . This program will

enhance their development by providing ways for the individual to relieve his stress and

communicate using pictures and activities instead of having to talk about what is going on.

Overtime the individual will gain skills of communicating through various ways for the staff to

understand what the individuals needs are . The individual can do these activities with his

roomates in his own house as well as staff that are present . The individual can take certain

activities with him to the base site where he goes three times a week to do with his group of

friends . Each activity is different and will take a different amount of time to complete depending

on the individual .

Section 3: Goals

The long term goals of creating this program with the individual is to help develop new skills of

communicating and remembering through activities .The individual can use these activities as a

way to communicate and make everyday tasks for them less stressful than they already are . By

doing this it will help the individual show how their feeling or something that has been on their

mind by creating art like painting a picture or drawing out how they feel or using a puzzle to

identify or solve a problem they may be facing that day . Some short term goals for this program

would be to do activities that the individual likes to do that will make them happy . This would

benefit them because if the individual likes what their doing and looks forward to their daily

activity it will get the individual to be more consistent and work on their skills. Another short term

goal for the individual would be to use painting and drawing as another way to communicate .

By doing this the individual is using his fine motor skills of grasping the objects like the paint

brush or pencil crayons and moving it all over the page . Another short term goal is to help the

individual jog his memory by creating these activities that will help him remember the little things

Section 3 : Program Content - Description :

The program I have created for the individual is a range of different activities that will help the

individual to use art as a form of communication and memory activities to help jog their memory

when it comes to remembering important information.

Session 1 : Puppet Socks

Description of Session : For creating the puppet socks all i use was some buttons , pipe

cleaners and socks to create them . The individual will make the puppets and then use them to

tell stories or talk in the past tense of how their day was or anything that's on their minds . This

can be a useful tool because staff can role play with the individual and get information from

them by using the puppets .

. The colours on the wheel are red , pink , yellow , orange , blue , purple , black , gold , and

white . Along with the colours are cards that state the feelings and emotions associated with the

specific colour . For this activity with the individual you will ask them to point to the arrow of

colour that they are feeling that specific day and read out to them what each colour means .

Than once the individual tells you the colour they are feeling ask them to paint or draw a picture

with that colour that describes their emotions.By doing this activity it will help the individual to

Description of session : For creating the puzzle memory job i came up with a puzzle that

included information about the individual , his age , the days he goes to base site , colours ,

seasons , months , area he lives in , ect . This is very useful for the individual because it will

help jog his memory and allow him to have the puzzle with him at times when he forgets certain

information that he needs to know on a daily basis . Staff will go over the puzzle with him each

day and get him to repeat the information back to you .

Materials needed for session :

- Memory Puzzle

less stressful for the individual . This will help the individual to develop new skills and use the

skills they already have for completing daily tasks .

Discussion Questions : How will this benefit the individual ?

Answer : It will help the individual to complete daily tasks in a less stressful way . They will learn

how to communicate without the use of words and create art to describe how they feel.
