Text structure refers to how information in a written text is organized, such as presenting a main idea and details, cause and effect, or different views of a topic. There are several common text structures: descriptive presents details to give the reader a mental picture; cause and effect explains the relationship between an event and its consequences; and comparison/contrast examines similarities and differences between two or more things. Order/sequence gives a chronological list of events or steps in a process. Problem-solution sets up a problem, explains a solution, and discusses the effects. Narrative text is a story that tries to solve complications or problems through narration.
