Parent/Guardian Information 2019-2020 Mr.

Kadvan, Room 109

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome! I am very excited for this upcoming year and look forward to
working with you and your third grader! The curriculum becomes more
complex and challenging as your child moves up in grades. Your child will
learn about many interesting topics and a variety of ways to solve problems. I
have witnessed how much parental involvement can impact a child’s
academic and individual growth. Your child is only with me 20%-25% of the
entire year. The time spent at home can really help your child’s growth. I care
about every single one of my students and believe they are all capable of
greatness! I am willing to help with any questions, concerns, etc. that will help
your child. *See conferencing for contact info*
About Mr. Kadvan:

My name is Mr. Chris Kadvan. This is my 9th year of teaching at this

amazing district. I am thrilled to be part of this district because of its strong
academic tradition and because of the amazing people that make United so
special! Prior to joining the staff at United I taught 5th and 6th grade at an
Alternative Education School in Pennsylvania. I am a graduate of Westminster
College (PA) with a degree in Elementary Education: K-6 and a master’s
degree in administration. Along with teaching I am the head boy’s varsity
basketball coach here at United.
About Miss Petrisko:

Hello! My name is Miss. Rhiannon Petrisko and I am currently a senior

at the University of Mount Union. I am majoring in early childhood education
and minoring in special education and French. I will be doing my clinicals
with Mr. Kadvan this year and I am so excited to meet your students and learn
about the United school district. Along with student-teaching this year, I am a
peer mentor for first-year students at Mount Union and I am also on the track
and field team, in a sorority, and I am the recruitment director for our St. Jude
Up ‘til Dawn program.

Conferencing:

Twice a year United holds scheduled Parent-Teacher conferences. You

will receive signup sheets in advance and reminders prior to each conference.
In addition to that, anytime you would like to speak with me, please contact
me. I am a strong believer that the more the parents/guardians are “on board”,
the more it will benefit the student. Due to the busy nature of the classroom I ask for
a days notice for any meetings. Depending on our schedules, I can either meet
before school or after school. I am sorry, but I cannot meet with you in the
morning as students are entering the building.

You may contact me by note, phone message to the school, or by e-mail.

In your e-mail, please include your child’s first and last name in the subject
line. My e-mail address is
Planners:

Planners are to be signed by the parent/guardian each day after they

have checked to see if their child has received his or her stamp for that day,
along with supervising any homework assignments. A student will not receive
a stamp for the following reasons: homework not shown to the teacher in the
morning, no parent signature from the day before, 2 or more rule reminders in
one day, or an extreme behavior infraction such as those listed in our planners.
It is considered the child’s responsibility to remind the adults to sign their
planners. If a student is missing 2 stamps during the week, then they will not
participate in Fun Friday Activity.

Discipline:

Our class will be using Class Dojo this year. Attached you can find
information about how to connect to our class. This tool is a great way to
communicate and to see immediate feedback about how your third grader is
doing that day at school.

Also, the students and I will make up a list of classroom rules

within the first couple days of school. A copy of the classroom rules and

“if you choose to break a rule” list will be sent home. We will also follow
the 7 Habits.
Report Cards:

The Standard Based Report cards will be sent home at the end of
each nine weeks. The envelopes are to be signed and returned within a
week. Please do not seal the envelope. The report card is yours to keep.

Newsletters:

Each week I try my best to post a weekly newsletter. The

newsletter highlights academics for the week, any notes/reminders, and
highlights students who earned 3 stamps for the week. The newsletter can be
found on Class Dojo. We no longer print copies for each student.
School Supplies:

*The following is a list of additional school supplies for our class:

• Pack of dry erase markers
• Dry erase board eraser or 1 long black sock
**We use dry erase markers a lot in the classroom for various subjects.
Please pay attention to my weekly newsletter. I will put a note in the
newsletter when the entire class is low on markers.**
• 3 Book covers; all of our hardback textbooks must be covered
*Please label all desk supplies with your child’s name
