Experiment No. 5 Darlington Pair Connection: (CITATION Ele /L 1033)

This experiment examines the Darlington pair configuration, which uses two bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) connected together to provide high current gain. The objectives are to determine the input and output impedances of a Darlington pair amplifier and compare its current gain to a single BJT. Key findings are that the Darlington pair has very high current gain, on the order of thousands, from the multiplication of the individual transistor gains. It also has high input impedance. However, frequency response is relatively low due to the slow turn-off of the output transistor base current.

VII. CONCLUSION

The Darlington pair transistor is a very useful circuit in many

applications. It provides high level current gain which can be
used in many power applications. It is mostly where high
frequency response is not needed. It can be used in audio
outputs, power supply outputs, display drivers and the like
