2. A merchant blends 350kg of tea costing sh 84 kg with 140kg of tea costing sh 105 per
kg. At what price must he sell the mixture to gain 25%. (3marks)

21. Three quantities P,Q and R are such that P varies directly as the square of Q and
inversely as the square root of R.

(c) If Q increases by 20% and R decreases by 36% , find the percentage change in P.

22. A plane leaves town A ( 240S, 100 E) and flies due north for 10.5 hrs at a speed of 480
knots. It reaches a town B.
(a) Find the position of town B. (3marks).
(b) The plane then flies west to a town C for 3 hours at the same speed. Find the
position of town C (4marks)

(c) If the time at A when the plane is at C is 0800hrs, what is the time at C. (3marks)
23.. (a) The first term of an Arithmetic Progression(AP) is 2. The sum of the first 8 terms of the
AP is 156.
(ii) Given that the sum of the firstn terms of the AP is 416, findn. (2 marks)
(a) The third, fifth and eighth terms of another AP form the first three consecutive terms of a
Geometric Progression (GP). If the common difference of the AP is 3, find
(i) The first term of the GP; (4 marks)

(ii) The sum of the first 9 terms of the GP, to 4 significant figures. (2 marks)
24.KentlandCompany is considering installing two types of machines, Type A and type B, for
assembly of spare parts of laptops. Type A machines requires 10 operators while type B
machine requires 5 operators. The number of type B machines must be more than the
number of type A machines. The total number of spare parts assembled per hour must be at
least 3. There should be at least 3 type A machines and at most 7 type B machines.
(b) On the grid provided represent all the inequalities in (a) above. (4marks)

(c) If the company makes a profit of ksh 6 per hour on type A machine and ksh 2 per hour on
type B machine, use a search line to determine the number of machines of each type that
should be installed to maximize the profit (2marks)
