BASICS OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

Module 6
1. Briefly describe the history of communication system.
2. What is meant by modulation? What are the different types modulation in
communication system?
3. What is the need for modulation in communication systems?
4. What is amplitude modulation? Write the expression for sinusoidal carrier voltage
which has been amplitude modulated by another sinusoidal modulating voltage.
5. Prove that after amplitude modulation the carrier power is increased form

modulated by a sinusoidal voltage of 5kHz producing 50% modulation. Calculate
frequency and amplitude of upper and lower side bands.
9. A sinusoidal carrier voltage of frequency 1200kHz is amplitude modulated by a
sinusoidal voltage of 20kHz resulting in maximum and minimum modulate carrier
amplitudes of 110V and 90V respectively. Calculate (a) the frequency of lower and
upper sidebands (b)the unmodulated carrier amplitude (c) modulation index and
amplitude of each side bands
