Fighter Guard Infantryman Phalanx Magnus ( - Part 1 - ) ( - Part 2 - )

This document provides guidance for turning a Magnus tank class into a dual-wielding fighter in the game. The guide is split into two parts. Part 1 focuses on building tanking abilities up to the Phalanx job through skills that increase health, defense, and the ability to hold aggro. It recommends restating to intelligence and reskilling before Part 2. Part 2 focuses on skills that use magical attack power for damage through skills like Holy Avenger and Holy Strike. It recommends using intelligence-based weapons like wands. The goal is to transform the tank into a fighter that can deal significant magical damage while still maintaining tanking abilities.

You are on page 1/ 7

This is the second guide I’m writing up and it follows the path of my Magnus, MataTank.

While
Magnus is a tanking class with this guide I’ll help you turn that tank into a deadly fighter. This
guide is going to be split into 2 parts because the path is broken down into 2 categories: Vitality
(or strength) tank into Intelligence Magnus. This path is going to cover 1H Tank into Dual-
wielding Tank. Keep that in mind.
-Magnus Guide
Before I get started I’d just like to note that while this path is pure tank, there are some skills that
you’re going to get and not understand why, but I will explain why. Also note, you MUST be an
elf to turn Magnus at all.
-Job Path:
Fighter>Guard>Infantryman>Phalanx>Magnus
{-----------Part 1---------------}{--------Part 2-------}
Pros:

 Amazing tanking ability

 Highest Physical Defense path
 Protection Aura and Invulnerability
 Great PvP and PvE path
 Dual wielding allows for double magic attack *You’ll find out what this means
 That’s pretty much all that comes to mind
Cons:

 Slow killing up to 75
 Lowest Attack of all paths (Not that it matters you’re going to be using magical attack)
 There’s not much I can think of that’s wrong with this class (I’ll leave it up to my readers
to point them out to me but this is a pretty stable path)
As I said this is a pretty stable path but you can add your own flair to it to make it exactly what
you want. This path is going down the intelligence option, not the strength or vitality one (for the
second half of the guide).
PART 1
***For this part of the guide you’re going to either go strength or vitality, but it doesn’t
matter which you choose, you can go for a split of the two or you can go pure of either it
won’t affect the ultimate outcome of this path. Also note that this guide is based off the
assumption that you’re using a 1H Sword***
Skills
This section is going to go over what skills I used/recommend between each of the job changes
and I will give reasons for anything that isn’t obvious.
Note: For any AUXILIARY SKILLS that are repeated I will not write the description of the
skill again rather I will put the changes from the previous level to the next level.
Example: Intelligence Level 1: This buff is obviously a must for any character that uses magic
attack. It simply increases the intelligence stat of the target by 10(the amount of increase will go
up as you level this buff)
Intelligence Level 3: +30 Intelligence to target
Job: Fighter-Guard [Level required to complete all recommended skills: 18]

*This first arc is really simple because you’re only going to be picking up 3 skills and that’s
all you’re going to need until the job change*
Skills:
1. Attack Skills
-Strike Attack Level 5: This skill is going to be your primary damage and it has the added effect
that it can induce poison on the target.
2. Auxiliary Skills (Optional)
-Fighter’s Heart Level 1: This skill increases the Strength of the target by 10 (the amount goes
up as the skill is leveled up)
3. Passive Skills
-Enhanced Hp Level 5: Although this is a new skill to you, what it does is pretty obvious, it
raises maximum Hp.
**See how simple that was? You aren’t even going to be leveling Fighter’s Heart for much
longer anyway so that skill is actually optional**

Job: Guard-Infantryman [Level required to complete all recommended skills: 36]

** Please be aware that if I don’t list a skill under a certain job then that means that there
is no change from the previous job**
Skills:
1. Attack Skills
-Strike Attack Level 10: Nothing new here, just more damage and more of a chance to poison
the target.
-Bloody Sky Level 5: This is an AoE, nothing special just get it for leveling purposes.
2. Auxiliary Skills
-Blessing Guard Level 2: This little self buff raises your physical defense by a small percentage
(2% at level 2)
3. Passive Skills
-Enhanced Hp Level 10: Nothing new here except the fact that this skill now also increases hp
recovery rate starting at level 6
-Blood Leak Level 2: This little number right here increases your hp regeneration when your
health drops under a certain % (initially 30%+3% per level maxing at 49% at level 8) the
increase at level 2 is hp regeneration goes up by 30.
-One Handed Training Level 5: This passive increases your physical attack while using one
handed weapons, it’s nothing special but we’ll get it to faster killing.
-Sword Training Level 5: This passive also increases physical attack but only while using
swords, although you can get this level 10, it’s not that important so just keep it at level 5.
-Heavy Armor Expertise Level 5: This passive is what is going to give you your physical
defense as you level up and job change. It simply raises your physical defense WHILE
WEARING HEAVY ARMOR. Keep that in mind
-Shield Training Level 5: This beauty raises the % of which you will successfully block a
physical attack while wearing a shield (quite obvious). At level 5 the gain is 13%.
Job: Infantryman-Phalanx [Level required to complete all recommended skills: 70]
***THIS IS THE LAST PORTION FOR PART 1 OF THE GUIDE***
Skills:
1. Attack Skills
-Double Strike Level 5: This is the upgraded version of Strike Attack, it adds a second attack
and also has a greater chance of poisoning the target.
-Cross Slash Level 5: This is a new attack skill that I haven’t mentioned. In order to get this
skill you need to raise Windy Slash to level 10 and this skill will unlock. The reason I didn’t
inform about getting Windy Slash earlier is because it wasn’t necessary, you should have been
fighting with just strike attack and been fine up until this point, this attack is primarily just to
help you kill faster.
~Holy Avenger Level 10: This is the first AoE that you get, but you should note that this AoE
DOES DAMAGE BASED OFF MAGICAL ATTACK POWER. That being said, seeing as
how you haven’t been instructed to restat yet don’t expect this attack to do too much damage.
~Holy Strike Level 10: As stated with the skill before this attack DOES DAMAGE BASED
OFF MAGICAL ATTACK POWER. It won’t be doing too much damage until later on, but
have it just to help kill.
2. Auxiliary Skills
-Attract Circle Level 5: Ahhh finally, we can A/C all those maps we’ve been dying to pull. I
recommend level 5 just because it gives you a decent range and threat rate while pulling so you
should be able to pick up numerous monsters with no problems. THIS SKILL IS KEY FOR
TANKING, otherwise it wouldn’t really be a tank
-Solid Shield Level 1: This buff raises the blocking ability of the target by 20% and increases by
5% per level maxing at 40% at level 5.
- Blessing Guard Level 4: This buff now increases physical defense by 4%
-Shield Barrier Level 2: This skill isn’t necessary but it is highly recommended. It raises your
magical and physical defense by 100% (200% at level 2) but at the cost of decreasing your
movement speed massively. Useful for PvP or if you find yourself in a tough spot with a mob. It
couldn’t hurt getting this, you have the SP to spare for it.
3. Passive Skills
-Enhance Hp Level 15: Nothing new here just level it.
-Blood Leak Level 4: Also nothing new, the hp regeneration boost now starts when hp drops
below 41%
- Magic Barrier Level 5: This is a new skill that raises overall magical defense, it’s worth the
investment for later on in the game when things start to really use magic.
-Heavy Armor Expertise Level 15: Not a thing new here, just more physical defense.
-Shield Training Level 10: Again not a new skill but the shield blocking rate goes up to 27% at
level 10.
****THIS IS THE END OF PART 1 FOR THE GUIDE! UPON REACHING LEVEL 75
AND CHANGING TO PHALANX YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BOTH RESTAT TO
INTELLIGENCE AND RESKILL YOURSELF ALSO. THE REMAINDER OF THIS
GUIDE WILL BE ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE INDEED FULL INTELLIGENCE AND
HAVE RESKILLED YOURSELF****
***PART 2***
Job: Phalanx-Magnus [Level required to complete all recommended skills: 96*]
*Seeing as how this req. level is extremely low in comparison to amount of levels until you
job change, you have A LOT of SP to mess around with. It’s up to you to either save it until
Magnus or use it for new skills to mess around with*
**THE OPTIMAL WEAPON FOR THE 2ND PART OF THIS GUIDE IS ATHENA’S
MITHRIL HAMMER, HOWEVER IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO OBTAIN ONE THEN
THAT’S FINE. There is only one skill in that will change if you are unable to acquire the
hammer and that’s Mace Protection Level 20.**
***USING 1H WANDS FOR THIS JOB IS A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
SUGGESTION. Seeing as how most swords, axes, and maces aren’t intelligence based
using wands is preferred {Athena’s Mithril Hammer is favored over all though} Wizardly
Wand and Power of Lotus are most common choices [Wizardly more common due to
rarity]but if you can get your hand on a Bloody Scimitar (1H sword that increases
intelligence) that is a good option also***
With all those notes out of the way we can get to the skills portion of this path
Skills:
1. Attack Skills
-Holy Avenger Level 20: Not only this your AoE but this along with Holy Strike are your
primary forms of attacking. Remember now you go off of magical attack power not physical
so adjust your armor accordingly.
-Holy Strike Level 20: Nothing new here just note that the damage output of this attack greatly
increased from when you picked it up as an Infantryman.
2. Auxiliary Skills
-Attract Circle Level 20: Max this lovely skill out, not only does it give a high threat level but
the range on this is tremendously larger than what you had earlier. Go big or go home right~
-Invulnerable Level 1: This skill is beautiful, while it doesn’t allow for movement during itself,
this move completely protects from any damage or status effects. How lovely is that when you’re
-Solid Shield Level 3: Shield block rate is increased by 30% instead of 20 now.
-Heal Level 10: Even though I highly doubt you’ll need this skill for yourself, the cool down on
it is pretty good and with magical attack the potency is a lot higher than if you had gotten it
earlier. If you’re in a party with others you can tank and heal other members that might have
gotten hurt, or you can top yourself off when you need to. No mages required
-Blessing Guard Level 6: Nothing new here, increases physical defense by 6% now.
-Shield Barrier Level 4: Nothing new again, increases physical and magical defense by 400%
now.
-Nature’s Shield Level 2: This is a toggle-able self buff that increases your physical defense by
a small amount (5% at level 2). This skill is for elves only
-Nature’s Mind Level 2: Also a toggle-able self buff but this one increases magical defense
instead (also 5% at level 2). Also elf only
3. Passive Skills
-Enhanced Hp Level 20: Nothing new just level it
-Blood Leak Level 6: Nothing new, the % of hp required to gain the regeneration boost is higher
(but I’m not sure what it is exactly)
-Magic Barrier Level 10: You can take the time now to level this to max since you have more
than enough SP and you’ll be near the point where enemies start using magic.
-Relaxation Level 2: This new passive also increases your hp recovery rate but besides a new
name it’s nothing too surprising. Seems to be a lot of hp recovery skills right?
**CONDITIONAL SKILL ALERT**
-Mace Protection Level 20: ONLY GET THIS SKILL IF YOU HAVE AN ATHENA’S
MITHRIL HAMMER, IF NOT GET IT WHEN YOU DO OBTAIN ONE. This skill
increases your physical defense WHILE WEARING A MACE, thus why only get it when
you have an Athena’s.

-Heavy Armor Expertise Level 20: Nothing new here so just level it…
-Shield Training Level 15: Shield block rate goes up to 40% but other than that it’s nothing new
Job: Magnus [Level required to complete all recommended skills: 105* ZOMG NO WAY]
*The reason the required level is so the same as the level you change to Magnus is because
there aren’t too many new skills to pick up and most of the work now comes from your
equipment*
Continuing…
Skills:
1. Attack Skills
-Nothing new just some notes
**You have A LOT of SP to mess around with at this point in time so any skills you’d like
to pick up whether for testing purposes, PvP, or just for fun feel free to do so. This guide
isn’t as SP restricting as my Cardinal one so feel free to do as you please at this point**
***The attack skills that I did provide you with, Holy Avenger and Holy Strike, are going
to much more powerful now upon dual wielding which I will get to***
2. Auxiliary Skills
****Nothing here is required except Protection Aura Level 1****
-Rampage Aura Level 3: This party skill increases the attack speed and strength of all those
around you.
-Shield Aura Level 3: This party skill increases the physical defense and vitality of those around
you. *THIS SKILL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*
-Accuracy Aura Level 3: This party skill increases the accuracy and dexterity of all those
around you.
-Protection Aura Level 1: THE ONLY REQUIRED SKILL HERE. This skill is nothing
short of a god mode. Unlike its predecessor, Invulnerability, this skill puts no toll on
movement speed at all but still makes you invulnerable. It also increases attack speed.
**This skill is always different on different servers for whatever reasons so I can’t really
comment on the cool down to recast ratio** This skill is key for a Magnus, not only does it
help with leveling but it’s what puts Magnus as one of the top PvP classes.
3. Passive Skills
-Nature’s Mind Level 3: Nothing new just level it to level it
-Nature’s Barrier Level 3: Same thing as above
-Dual Wield Expertise Level 1: I CAN’T STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF ONLY KEEP
THIS SKILL LEVEL 1! THE PENALTIES OF DUAL WIELDING ARE
INAPPLICABLE ENTIRELY WITH THIS PATH SO YOU HAVE NO NEED TO
LEVEL THIS FURTHER THAN 1. Other than that this skill does what its name says, it
allows you to dual wield. ****Notes on dual wielding
****Dual wielding allows you to, as the name states, wield 2 weapons. Please keep in mind
that you can only dual wield 2 of the same TYPES of weapons and you can NOT dual wield
2H (you’d be surprised how many people try it). The ideal weapon in this guide is the
Athena Mithril Hammer because not only is it dual wield-able but you also get a 2 nd boost
of physical defense from Mace Protection Level 20 because you are wielding 2 maces. Also
your magical attack is potentially doubled with this weapon, but I made my weapon notes
at the start of Part 2 so just refer to that for ideas on weapons to use. YOU CAN DUAL
WIELD WANDS (not staves)****
Other than these notes on dual wielding the rest of your skills remain the same, and you
have an insane amount of SP to play with even at level 105, so please enjoy your
intelligence Magnus, and I hope everyone enjoyed my guide. Remember: Feel free to
change up skills and such to add your own personal flair =] My personal Magnus has sleep
and stun skills to help in PvP in addition to its magical attacks. As we all know PvP is
strategy so use what you know to make yourself good at it.
This concludes my Magnus guide, I hope you all enjoy!
