Cricket - More than just a bat and ball sport


Summary of Program:
Teachers will participate in an a combination of practical and theory sessions on the different ways in which cricket can
be used as a tool to help improve a child¶s physical and mental wellbeing before exploring different ways to have an
inclusive classroom while teaching PDHPE.

PL Reflection
1 How does this PL link with my learning goals?
Learn new ways to integrate games within sport specifically related to cricket. Prior to this PL i had no idea about how
to teach cricket and I now feel confident in creating a fun and engaging cricket program.

Yes there were games that began at beginner level and were able to be further extended depending on students
ability. The games that they showed us could be manipulated and would be effective skills based activities for a variety
of other sports.

This was a very cooperative professional development. Being a team sport you needed to collaborate and
communicated with all member of your team in order to achieve success. I was able to build new relationships with
other teachers during the PL.

Summary of Program:
Through an Inquiry approach at Sacred Heart 'We are learners with 'skills' who are utilising the 'assets'. We have a
common language and approach which encourages students to build a growth mindset.

Understanding and Teaching the Power of Parables


Summary of Program:
In this seminar participants will be exposed to the power of parable in the ancient world and work with a variety of New
Testament parables and unpack their meaning in a first century context. Participants will engage in activities which will
be directly transferable to classroom.

1 How does this PL link with my learning goals?
This PL link to further understanding the 3 worlds of the text. By analysing a text 'behind, of and in front' has help
assist my understanding of how to teach scripture.

The understanding on the world behind the text. It is important to understand the context of where the scripture is set
and what was going on at the time in order to fully comprehend the text. I have learnt to take the time and consider the
world behind the text.

I am able to support students in better comprehending scripture by analysing texts similar to the way we analysed it on
the PL. Looking at the 3 worlds of the texts allows students to better comprehend the messages within scripture.

This was relevant as we were required to work collaboratively to analyse the the different gospels. We then
communicated the differences and similarities between the same parable within each gospel.

Learn how to use the voting process to empower students to make decisions while equipping them with a valuable
citizenship skill. Explore a variety of strategies and ideas for teaching electoral education as it relates to the Civics and
Citizenship.

This PL linked as I wanted to learn how to implement interactive and engaging lessons on Government.

Writing Conferences: The Foundation of Assessment


Summary of Program:
Conferencing is the most powerful aspect of a great writing classroom. Come and learn how to set the climate for
conferencing, and unpack the predictable structure, roles and types of conferences. You will leave armed to lift the
quality of the feedback you can offer each of your individual writers.

To provide students with useful and timely feedback.

I am now letting the students take control of the writing conferences and ask them where they want to improve. Not
focus on the small things like spelling and punctuation and more the writing techniques they can improve on.

Each writing conference is different depending on the student and the text that they are writing. I am letting the
students share their writing with me and when they read it aloud they identify and area of improvement. As I continue
to conference with students they now want to conference with me as they can between identify areas of improvement
and are seeking that feedback.

Being able to share experiences with other early career teachers has allowed me to both relate and learn new ways to
do things. It taught news things for the classroom, the playground, differentiation and other aspects of our job including
engaging with parents.

It allowed me to reflect on the students in my class who have additional needs. Although the need sin my class are not
overly challenging I was able to reflect on ways that I can further support each student in my class.
