Happy Family

Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

• Identify the members living together in a family.

• Understand caring and sharing and the role played by the


family members.

• Identify resemblances within the family members.

It was Sunday. Razia came to Rani’s house to play. Razia looked at their family
photograph on the wall. She asked Rani who they were. Rani introduced the members
of her family to Razia.

Rani: This is my family photograph. This is my grandfather and grandmother in the
centre. You can see my father standing on the left of my grandfather and my mother
standing on the right of my grandmother. That is my brother Chintu. And this is our pet
dog Tommy.
Razia: Oh! Nice to know about your family.
Rani: What about your family?
Razia: In my family, we are three of us. My father Rasool, my mother Haseena and I.

We all live with our families. A family consists of grandfather, grandmother, father,
mother, brothers and sisters(siblings). We have few or all of these members in our
family

Role of family members
This is Geetha’s house. Observe the picture given below and mention the work they all
are doing.

Geetha’s mother is cooking. Her father is chopping wood. Her grandfather is watering
the plants and her grandmother is drying the clothes. Geetha is brining water and her
brother is sweeping outside the house.
Everyone in the family shares the work and helps one another.

Mother and father help to keep our house clean. Do you know who cleans our school

Have you seen anyone cleaning the roads?
Next time when you see anyone cleaning the road or clearing the garbage, say ‘Thank
you’ because they help us in keeping our roads and villages clean.

Whom do you look like?


Usually, people in a family are similar, the way they look and behave.
Read the following narration.
Radha: Hi I am Radha. Everyone says that I look like my grandmother.
Kamala: I am Kamala. My nose is like that of my father’s.
Zakeer: I am Zakeer. My father is tall like my grandmother.
Some features like skin colour (brown, dark, fair), height (tall, medium, short) are
parental characters that pass on from parents to children.
Sometimes there are similarities in the behaviour of children and other members of a
family. You may walk like your uncle. You may write with your left hand like your father.
• Do faces of all the people look alike?
Observe the faces of Kishore, Satish, Rahim and Dilip. Do you find any differences in
their faces? Is there anyone whose face looks like the one given in the pictures below?
Observe and mention their names in the space provided.

Why do my sister and I look different and the same?
No two people look alike. Everyone of us is different and unique. We just resemble our
family members in our outward appearance. We resemble our family members in
height, colour and size.
Hence, hereafter we should not tease or bully our friends or others for their appearance.
Let us treat everyone with love and respect.
Let us Write:
Ask your parents and other members of your family whom they look-like and note down
in the given table.
