3 Task - Reverberation Time

The document discusses the calculation of reverberation time using Sabine, Eyring, and Millington formulas. It provides the formulas and variables used to calculate reverberation time based on room volume, average sound absorption coefficient, and total surface area. It then gives an example problem to calculate the reverberation time of a classroom and redesign it to improve absorption by adding items like carpets and curtains to reduce reverberation time.

Task: Reverberation time of a classroom

The classroom of floor dimensions 8.0 m x 7.20 m, clearance height 4.0 m,

3 windows 1500 mm x 2000 mm (window sill 900 mm), wooden frame width 100 mm,
1 door 900 mm x 2000 mm (wooden door).
Surfaces : upper surface
- Floor: wood parquets
- Walls and ceiling soffit : plaster
- Desks: 18 wooden desks (dimensions 1300 mm x 450 mm) reversible surface
- Chairs: 36 wooden chairs (dimensions of seats 500 mm x 500 mm)
- Whiteboard: plastic (dimension 3000 mm x 1200 mm, position of
the board is 900 mm above the floor level)

Calculation procedure:
- Calculation of the room volume V [m3]
- Determination of surfaces and its sound absorption coefficients (for frequencies f= 125, 250,
500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz) http://www.acoustic.ua/st/web_absorption_data_eng.pdf
