The student has learned a lot about documentary conventions through their research, helping them define the type of documentary they want to create. They looked at two professional documentaries to see techniques they may use. Researching other filmmakers helped the student understand how documentaries influence audiences and see unique styles. Researching their target audience helped improve ideas to connect with their audience and consider perspectives not usually included. Researching distribution platforms educated the student on documentary genres and production time. To stay on track, the student needs to begin pre-production work finalizing their idea and vision.

Week Three - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your I have a learnt a lot about my research. I have learnt and
research? understood the conventions for documentaries, the main ones
being; Expository, Observational, Participatory and Reflexive
documentaries by learning these different conventions it has
helped me to define what sort of documentary I want to create
and how effective each element will be and how I will
communicate my ideas with my audience. I also looked at two
professional documentaries and have looked at some of the
things that have captured my eye, and the sort of things I will
be attempting to use in my own production.

allowed me to look at every aspect of my audience therefore
giving me a clearer idea of how I will present my production.

ideas? are out there as I don’t really watch that many of them, and to
truly understand what types of documentaries you can watch
and how much time is taken to create every production.

What work do you need to complete I have finished all work for the research so I will need to start
outside of lessons to stay on track? looking at the pre-production work for my production so That it
finalises my idea and views.
