A/B Phase flip

Flipping A/B switch on analyzer vs. having to walk over

to the encoder.
#4 format and then #9 Flip A/B for a 4 cycle
High Frequency range

Use 8-25khz for 3500/3600 Caterpillar Engine high

frequency vibration range.
High Frequency range

Use 6-25khz for Waukesha VHP high frequency vibration

range.
Channel Resonance correction

Channel resonance correction smoothing factor Range

9-11 CE-HE-SN-DN

Adjust per sensor smoothing to eliminate

frequency spikes
CO2 units

Use the 84-10a clearance calculations for CO2 units

Leak Index

∗ Leak index smoothing factor 6 for slow speed units

12-14 for High speed units.

Use these to calculate leak index.

Cross Channel Phase

Cross Channel Phase readings must be done with 2

accelerometers pulled simultaneously. Both must be
channels 1 and 2.
Bump Testing

Use Impact Hammer.

Channel 1 – Accelerometer
Channel 3 – Impact hammer
Valve plots

Windrock defaults to show discharge valves on the

bottom of the PT/VT trace but it can and should be
switched in the plots to have the discharge valves on
top.
AutoScan

Change Autoscan and auto save on in analyzer options.

Yes and ask to save, Entering the data collection process
will automatically start the analyzer auto scanning data
and updating the screen with each collection of data
until the 3 key [STOP AUTOSCAN] is pressed. You will
then have the choice of saving the last scan.
Yes auto save If this is selected during take data, the last
single scan of auto scanning will be saved before taking
the normal data without asking if you want it saved.
Yes but don't save will not save the last single autoscan
and proceed to taking normal data without asking.
No turns off "Autoscan"
Verify pickup strength and polarity

Use O-Scope mode with A6019 Low Voltage Cable

Data Collection
> Special collection modes
> O-Scope Mode
Use Voltage Input.
Adjust Step size and count to view signal
Need a POSITIVE trigger signal
Arming is done on positive slope then
Trigger is at ZERO-CROSSING

Spark Sample Length

Change Spark Sample Length from 1000 micro seconds

to 5100 micro seconds to easily show single or Multi
strike.
Displacement

Don’t take any displacement readings with your

accelerometer due to the double integration error.
If you are taking displacement (mils) reading use a
velocity transducer.
Triaxial Accelerometers

Don’t use triaxial accelerometers for displacement

readings.
Can cause side banding/modulation issues as well as ski-
sloping

My brass kiene cap plug is stuck

Replace the Valve

No you cant beat it out… believe us, you don’t need a
bigger wrench, or a set of vise grips.
Wireless trouble

If having wireless issues try switching from hole or pin

on encoder. It really works most times.
Transmitter LED

When the wireless transmitter is connected to the shaft

encoder, the LED on the front of the unit will flash in
response to encoder signals.
Once per turn operation
• LED will blink rapidly and faintly
Degree pulse operation
• LED will flash slowly and brightly
On occasion, the transmitter and encoder will start in
the wrong mode of operation, and it will be necessary
to unplug the transmitter and plug it back in.
No TDC Mark

In a pinch if a machine can not be shut down it is

possible to use paint, an ear plug and a elastic band to
mark the flywheel. Optical Pickup has to be used.
No TDC Mark, no ear plugs?

Rare earth Neodymium Disc

Magnets can be attached to
rotating shafts if careful.
Wear eye protection!
1/4" Diameter, 0.1" Thick
1.8 lbs. Maximum Pull
Works on speeds up to 1800 RPM’s
Use a pen to small screwdriver to attach
High Speed compressor encoder

Using a hose adapter can work in a pinch as a shield to

stop oil coming out when using the shaft encoder. Also
can be used with a 3/8” coarse bolt for Ariel crankshafts
Stingers

Try using different stingers for vibration and ultrasonic

to attenuate, and clear up the data
Signal Reflectors

Some say that they work

Reflected signals are weaker
Almost any metal is RF reflective
Painting may absorb RF signals
Secondary Adapter

Increase your secondary ignition analysis capabilities

Cleaning

CRC Chlor-Free Degreaser

Non-chlorinated
Fast drying
Use to clean LEMO connectors
Fischer Connectors
Pressure sensor nuts and fittings

Fmax & # of Lines

Fmax
∗ Engine / Frame = 10 x RPM
∗ Cylinders / Piping = 10 x RPM
∗ Pulsation / Bearings = 20X RPM

Lines When to use

200 Fmax = 9,360
400 Fmax = 37,500
800 Fmax = 37,500 – 75,000
1600 Fmax = 75,000 +

Note: This is VERY general.
