Types of Fire Extinguishers

Type A fire extinguishers are used on fires involving solid materials like wood or paper. They contain water and carbon dioxide. Do not use on oil fires or electrical fires. Type B extinguishers are used on oil-based fires like those involving petrol or kerosene. They contain foam. Do not use on electrical fires. Type BC extinguishers are used on electrical fires. They contain dry chemical powder or carbon dioxide. The dry chemical powder version should not be used in enclosed spaces due to health risks from inhaling the powder.

USED ON -
Fire due to solid material
(i.e. wood, coal, cloth, paper, etc.)

CONTAINS -
Water & carbon-di-oxide

DO NOT USE -
Oil fire & / Short Circuits
HOW TO USE ‘A’ TYPE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

1) Hold Fire Extinguisher vertically downwards.


The not is indicated by a arrow.
2) Hold this point to the origin or in the direction
of fire.

3) Impact it on the ground & shake well before use.


4) Hold fire extinguisher firmly.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER ‘B’ TYPE

USED ON -
Fire due to Oil
(i.e. Petrol, Thinner, Diesel,
Kerosene, Turpentine, etc.)

CONTAINS -
Foam (Water base)

DO NOT USE -
Oil fire & / Short Circuits
HOW TO USE ‘B’ TYPE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

1) Pull the knob in upward direction & lock the


knob in the given slot & hold the fire
extinguisher downward direction as shown.
2) Hold this point to the origin or in the direction
of fire.

3) shake well before use.


4) Hold fire extinguisher firmly.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER ‘B/C’ TYPE

USED ON -
Fire due to Electricity
(i.e. Short Circuits, etc.)

CONTAINS -
Dry Chemical Powder (DCP)
Carbon-di-oxide (CO2)

DO NOT USE -
In closed cabins because
while operation surrounding
area is covered by white
powder withpressure which is
injurious to health if inhaled.
HOW TO USE ‘B/C’ TYPE (DCP) FIRE EXTINGUISHER

1) Remove safety clip before use.


2) Press the knob.
3) Hold this part of the pipe firmly to
the direction of the fire.
4) Use Mask of face shield to avoid
inhalation of DCP in the body.
5) Hold the pipe & fire extinguisher
firmly.
6) Do not address the pipe to the
human body.
HOW TO USE ‘B/C’ TYPE (CO2) FIRE EXTINGUISHER

1) Rotate this knob in anticlockwise


direction.
2) Hold the funnel to the direction of
the fire.
3) This part of the funnel is getting
cold while operation, so hold it
firmly.
4) Use Mask of face shield to avoid
inhalation of CO2 in the body.
5) Hold the funnel & fire extinguisher
firmly.
6) When operation complete rotate
the knob clockwise to close flow
of CO2.
