I. Instructional Objectives

A. Students will be able to correctly multiply 3-digit by 2-digit decimal

numbers to find the product.

B. Students will be able to correctly divide 3-digit by 2-digit decimal

numbers to find the dividend.

C. Students will be able to create real world mathematical problems.

II. Descriptions of Assessments

A. Discussion Posts: Using the standard objectives in 5.NBT.7 and content

curation resources, these posts or “exit tickets” were created. A total of

four discussion posts were created via social media sites, Twitter and

Edublogs. Students were to show what they had learned through a visual

or written discussion response. All posts were graded on a 100% grading

scale. On Twitter, there were two questions on multiplication and division

with decimals. One of the Tweets asked students to find the missing factor

of 8 X _____=108. The twist was that students couldn’t solve by dividing.

They were told to use the guess and check problem solving strategy.

Students were asked to tweet their guesses and the hashtag #nailed it with

the correct missing factor. The next discussion tweet asked students to

create a real world example of a division with decimals word problem that

their classmates must solve. Upon posting, students were required to show

their work. Students were asked to retweet the classmate’s tweet they

solved and the hashtag #nailedit with the correct answer. There was a
slight variation in the Edublog discussion site. Students were expected to

first review the multiplication and division resources located on the left

panel of the EduBlogs site. Then, students were to respond to both

discussions. The first discussion required students to explain using a visual

as to why an answer to a multiplication with decimals problem was not

solved correctly. On the second discussion posts students were to watch

the video tutorial from Khan Academy and then respond to the question

“What would you do if the problem you are solving has a remainder?”

Students were to solve 8 divided by 5.005 and show their work. Then,

create a division with decimals problem for their classmates to solve.

B. Quizzes: The quizzes created were based on the standard objectives, once

students had completed the content module. There were a total of two

quizzes available and each were graded based on a 100% grading scale.

Google Forms was the first quiz students needed to take on the module.

They first watched an instructional video and then completed the 5

question multiple choice quiz. The website GoConqr was used to create

the second quiz for students. It was a 10 question multiple choice

assessment.

C. Unit Project: The unit project was designed based on the 5th Grade

Number and Operations in Base Ten objectives, content curation

resources, and discussion posts. The unit project was entitled, “Let’s

Eat”. Students were to pretend that they just opened a fabulous, new

restaurant. Their job was to create and design a menu for a new restaurant.
The menus must have at least 3 items underneath each of the following

categories: Appetizers Main Courses Desserts Beverages They needed to

include prices with decimals for each item on the menu. Then, students

needed to create least 8 word problems using the student-created menu.

Two word problems should be addition or subtraction. Two word

problems should be multiplication. Two word problems should be

division. Two word problems should be at least 2-step problems. Students

will ensure that all word problems are written in final draft form. Students

should also provided the answer key to each problem. Students were

graded on a rubric out of 12 possible points which is equivalent to 100%.

IV. Unit Assessment Analysis

A. Student 1 Analysis: Student 1 completed all four discussion posts. Student 1

received an average grade of a 100 because on all discussions she received full

credit being able to visually explain how she solved each problem step by step.

The average grade for her quizzes was a perfect 100. She performed

phenomenally on the Restaurant Menu Project receiving another perfect score of

100. Overall, Student 1 performed exceptionally well on the entire content

module.

B. Student 2 Analysis: Student 2 completed all four discussion posts and the

two quizzes. The average grade for her quizzes was a 95 because she answered

one of the GoConqr questions incorrectly. She received an average grade of a 93

on her discussion posts or exit tickets. On the second EduBlogs post she

answered the question, however, did not create a division with decimals problem

with remainder for her classmates to solve. So she did not receive full credit for

that post. Student 2 scored a 94 on the unit project. Based on the rubric, she did

not score the maximum number of points for her answer key. She had one error

in her answers. Overall, Student 2 performed well on the entire content module.

C. Student 3 Analysis: Student 3 also completed the entire module. Student 3

received an average grade of a 98 on his discussion posts. On the second

EduBlogs post he provided a division with decimals problem for his classmates

to solve, however, it didn’t have a remainder. He did not receive full credit for

that post. Quiz 1 he missed one of the five word problem scoring an 80. He

scored 100% on Quiz 2. This gave him an assessment average of 90. Student 3
scored a perfect score of 100 on the Unit Project: Let’s Eat! Overall, Student 3

could have scored higher on Quiz 1, however, his lack of attention during certain

components caused him to score slightly lower than projected. The schoolwide

positive behavior incentive was to be held later that day, so possibly that caused

a slight glitch in the scores.

D. Student 4 Analysis: Student 4 completed both discussion posts and quizzes.

Student 4 received an average grade of 93 on unit discussions. The Edublogs

post scores of 80 and 90 caused a decrease in average. Student did not use the

prompt provided in the first discussion and didn’t provide a question for his

classmates to solve in discussion 2. His average grade on quizzes is a 90%. He

scored an 88 on his unit project. He lost a few points for grammatical errors and

one of his answers provided was incorrect. Overall, Student 4 performed well on

content module, however, there is room for growth through an intervention

lesson.

V. Field Notes

A. Student 1: Student 1 followed all directions during the entire module.

During the first couple of days of the module, I noticed she was sort of confused

and asked for assistance as to the flow of the module. This was her first time

going through a content module. Once I was able to review the expectations and

outline with her she performed very well.

B. Student 2: Student 2 was very intrigued by the module because it was first

time completing an online course or unit. Due to the fact that she was excited,
she did spark up more conversation with the others than allowed and had to be

redirected. Once redirected a few times, student continued to perform well.

C. Student 3: As previously mentioned, on the day students were assessed the.

schoolwide PBIS celebration was to occur later in that afternoon. This caused a

slight distraction in Student 3’s performance on one of his quizzes.

D. Student 4: Student 4 was the most focused of all the students. However, I do

feel there is room for growth in his performance. I believe he will do great with

an intervention booster just to be sure he mastered the skill objectives.
