Lesson Plan Guide LPG Word 1

The lesson plan guide outlines a lesson on lunar phases that includes direct instruction from the teacher, a group activity where students create a poster on lunar phases, and independent practice. Students will learn the scientific names of lunar phases and use a worksheet to complete a graphic organizer before applying their knowledge to a group poster project. Assessment will include collecting individual worksheets and exit tickets to evaluate student understanding.

Higher Order Questions to ask: (C6)

1. How can we apply the information from the Earth, Moon and Sun systems?

2. Remembering the lunar phases of the moon, which phase will we experience today?
3.
While creating the model for the lunar phases for the moon, how is the sun affected by the phases?

Hook: (C7) Closure: (C7)

Play alien space music and earth songs. Students will turn in an individual exit slip that contain 2
things they learned and 1 thing that want to know more
about.
1. Teacher Input / Direct Instruction / Modeling: (C6)
What are you going to do or say to make your points during this lesson?

- The teacher will lecture on the important words and concepts and show a small clip that shows how the
lunar phases move across and how they affect the Sun, Earth and Moon.
- The teacher will encourage students to take notes so the graphic organizer can be completed.
- Remind the students the importance of the lesson and how it relates to us.

2. Student Activities / Guided Practice: (C6)

What will you do WITH the students to model and facilitate learning?
- A warm-up will be done as usual and as well a graphic organizer to brain storm and complete a poster
board with the applied knowledge learned in the current lesson.
- Teacher will walk around after short lecture and help guide students to the correct resources or break
down questions to find solutions.

3. Independent Practice: (C6)

What activities will the students do independently to show learning?
- Students will have the individual warm-up and worksheet assignment that will be turned in for an
individual grade and the poster will be turned in as a group grade. Students apply what they learned to the
group poster and explain to their group members why it’s useful.

Notes:
Name:
DELIVERY PLAN (C8)
OBJECTIVE: Students will learn the different lunar phases of the Moon in relation to the Sun and Earth. Student’s will
Rigor find out what phase it will be tonight in this current day.

OPENING:
Retrieval Space/ earth songs will be playing as students walk in and work on the warm-up question about movement
of the Sun, Moon and Earth in the solar system. This will lead into the lesson for lunar phases.

TEACHER INPUT:
Relevance Scientific names for the phases will be learned and as well as an in-class group assignment that will allow
students to complete worksheet based on the lunar phases. Students will learn what phases is for that
MODEL: current day. Students can use the computer, textbook and poster board material to create project.
Routing Students will draw or cut and paste pictures of the lunar phases with the Sun, Moon and Earth on the poster
board. The model needs to be accurately spaced out by a smaller ratio distance for the planets.

GUIDED PRACTICE:
Retaining / Rehearsing
Praise, prompt and leave.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:
Students use their worksheet and research to apply their new knowledge to the group poster board.

CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Recognizing
Ask students questions that encourage them to perform more research and include new information into the poster board.

ASSESSMENT:
The individual worksheets the student’s used prior to the poster board will be picked up after class to see how much the
student has learned after performing the group poster board and learning from peers.

RESOURCES / MATERIALS:
Computer (google) will be used and as well as textbook. Poster board and art supplied will be needed.

CLOSURE:
Re-exposure
Pick-up exit ticket from each student that concludes what the student learned and what they want to know more about.
