Pretest, RC Part 2 PDF

1. Design the footing for a column with dimensions 600mm x 600mm that is subjected to axial loads of 1680kN dead and 1350kN live. The footing must be 3.2m wide or less. 2. Design the main reinforcement for a 200mm thick concrete wall that is part of a basement structure with 6m column spacing. The wall is subjected to a 20kPa live surcharge load. 3. Design the interior slab panel “x” of a floor beam system subjected to 1.6kPa dead and 2.39kPa live loads. The slab has a concrete compressive strength of 21MPa and reinforcing steel yield strength of 275MPa.

Pretest (RC Part2) 3.

Design the interior slab panel “x” of the floor beam

system shown in the figure. Assume fc’=21MPa,
1. Given the following:
fy=275MPa. The slab is subjected to a total dead load
Column: 600mm x 600mm (not including its weight) of 1.6kPa and live of 2.39kPa.
Axial Dead Load: 1680kN use 12mm dia bars (2010 NSCP)
Axial Live Load: 1350kN
Depth of footing: 1.8m
Allowable soil bearing pressure: 230kPa
Unit weight of soil above the footing: 15kN/m3
Unit weight of concrete: 24kN/m3
fc’= 28MPa fy= 345MPa

Design the footing if its width is limited to 3.2m. Use

25mm bars and 74mm clear cover

2. The figure shown is the foundations, columns, tie

beam, grade beam and concrete wall of a basement.
Center to center spacing of columns is 6m and the
difference in elevation of the top of the tie beam and
soffit of the grade beam is 4.5m (assumed as point of
simple supports). The desired thickness of the concrete
wall is 200mm considering that shear is not critical.
Natural ground line is in the same level of the top of the
tie beam and pour water pressure is not present in the
situation. An applied live surcharge of 20kPa is acting
along the periphery of the structure. Unit weight of soil
is 18.9kN/m3. Fc’=24MPa, fy=275MPa. Design the main
reinforcement for the wall considering 1m tributary
4. A combined rectangular footing supports an exterior
width. Use 12mm diameter bars
column (500x500) and an interior column (300x300).
The exterior column having its face along the property
line carried DL=550kN and LL=450kN, and the interior
column carries a DL= 800kN and LL=700kN. The bottom
of the footing is 2m below the natural grade. Allowable
soil bearing capacity is 220kPa, unit weight of soil is
17.6kN/m3, unit weight of concrete is 24kN/m3.
Distance between centroid of column sections is 3.2m.
design the combined footing based from the provisions
of the code.
