1 INTRODUCTION
Binani Cement Limited (BCL) a subsidiary of Binani Industries Limited (BIL), a prominent business
house in India is planning to develop the captive port facility at Dhamlej close to Veraval in Gujarat.
The company is planning to develop the captive port facility near Dhamlej close to Veraval in Gujarat.
The site is approximately 6 kms up the shore line from Dhamlej village. The port is envisaged to be
developed in two phases:
Phase-1: Captive port to cater to the proposed power plant which is around 6 kms ( though based on
interaction with BCL’s officials the location has not been frozen)from the waterfront (~ 1.0 MTPA of
thermal coal imports – from Indonesia)
Phase-2: Captive port to cater to the cement plant (~2.5 MTPA of clinker exports)
It is now decided to appoint a Consultant to carry out various surveys in order to prepare Detailed
Project Report (DPR) for Captive Jetty at Dhamlej.

2 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The objective of the study is to give the information on various physical parameters such as wave,
current, tide, depth, wind, soil etc. which will form the basis for Detailed Project Report (DPR).
3 TERMS OF REFERENCE
The broad terms of reference for the consultancy assignment will include (but not limited to) at least
the following:
A) Bathymetry survey
Objective- To prepare a contour map in a scale of 1:2000 at a gap of 1 m in the area (2kmx1km)
while taking soundings at every 20m interval.

C) Geo-technical Survey
Objective
-To prepare Report on soil condition including Test outcomes by doing 3 bore holes in the area for
the jetty (200mx20m) and 3 bore holes in the stack yard (200mx23m).
i. To determine type of substrata below sea bed and their characteristics up to the specified
depths,
ii. To assess the general suitability of the site for the construction of jetty;
iii. To enable an adequate and economic design to be prepared, including the design of temporary
works;
iv. To plan the best method of construction; to foresee and provide against difficulties and delays
that may arise during construction due

vi. To determine the changes that may arise either naturally or as a result of the proposed works,
and the effect of such changes on adjacent works and on the environment in general;
vii. To advise on the relative suitability of different sites, or different parts of the same site; in case
alternatives are to be studied for any specific purpose that may be indicated in this Specification.
Deliverables
The deliverables have been outlined after the following tests which need to be conducted
TESTS IN A BOREHOLE
Standard penetration test needs to be carried out in a borehole generally at 3.0m intervals and at
every noticeable change of strata and as per the procedure in IS:2131 or equivalent code of
practice.
LABORATORY TESTS
General
All laboratory tests need to be performed by qualified and experienced personnel, familiar with
and having access to equipment and facilities for the accurate determination of data necessary,
for requirements under this specification.
The following laboratory tests need to be conducted from the selected samples recovered from
the test bore-holes:
a. Sieve Analysis
c. Shrinkage Limit
f. Specific Gravity
i. Consolidation Test
k. Triaxial Test
l. U.C.C. Test

General
The report shall be in SI units only. Metric units may be used only if needed. A plot plan, showing
locations of all tests properly drawn and dimensioned with reference to the established grid lines,
need to be presented in the report.
The Volume 2 shall give interpretations of all tests results and recommendations and shall
complement Volume 1.
Recommendations
The recommendations need to be given based on observations and test results and shall
encompass theoretical as well as practical considerations for foundations for type of structures
envisaged and other relevant systems as in the area under investigation.
The entire assignment will be completed within 3 weeks from the date of award of work.
5 FEES
The consultant should indicate all inclusive sum amount, excluding the service tax (which shall be
paid by Binani Cement Ltd, as applicable from time to time, in addition to quoted fee).
