Praxis Analysis 2

Isabella Henkel wrote a reflection on taking practice tests for the Praxis Core Exam, which is required to become a teacher in Nevada. Her scores on the practice tests were below passing levels for reading, writing, and math. Specifically, her reading score was 52%, writing was 73%, and math was 46%. To improve, she plans to study more seriously using resources from professors, take additional practice tests, and get tutoring to strengthen her weak areas before retaking the official exam.

PRAXIS ANALYSIS
2

It is known that to become a teacher, you need to take the Praxis Core Exam and pass it.

As a student at CSN, I will not be allowed to take any education courses at UNLV, NSC, or

UNR to continue my Bachelor’s degree in education until I successfully complete the Praxis

Core Exam. The passing scores for the Praxis Core in Nevada for Math, Reading, and Writing

respectively are 150, 156, and 162.

To prepare for the exam, I have taken a few practice tests in the past. Admittedly I didn’t

do a good job with any of those practice tests I was required to take, and it reflected in the way I

struggled with the ones I completed today. Other than those practice tests I took a long time ago,

I only read the basics about the test to prepare myself for the Praxis Core Exam.

My reading score was a 52% and showed that I need significant improvement in order to

pass the official Praxis Core Exam. In writing, I scored a 73% which showed that I was

borderline and was between passing and failing the actual Praxis Core Exam. My math score was

the worst out of the rest, being a 46% which also showed I needed significant improvement.

Overall, my test scores were not preferable and show I need to work on bringing them up.

In order to pass this exam, I will have to take it far more seriously and put more effort

into studying for it. I will use the resources provided to me by several professors as well as

studying other versions of the practice tests and working on the material I was confused with in

this one. If possible, I will reach out to tutors on campus in order to better improve my scores

and work on my weak points.
