Installation Instructions Windows
Atmel Studio 7
Note: Even if you have Atmel Studio 6 software installed on your system, you have to
install Atmel Studio 7 software for this course. Follow the instructions below for installing
the same.
Proteus 8 Demonstration
Note: Even if you have Proteus 8 Professional software installed on your system, you have
to install Proteus 8 Demonstration software for this course. Follow the instructions below
for installing the same.
The installation of all software has been tested on Windows 8 and 10. We recommend you to use
one of these versions of Windows OS. These software have to be installed ONLY ON 64-bit OS.
1. Atmel Studio 7
Atmel Studio provides a project management tool, source file editor, simulator, assembler, and
front-end for C/C++, programming, and on-chip debugging. It carries and integrates the GCC
toolchain for both AVR and ARM, Atmel Software Framework, AVR Assembler and Simulator.
OS: Windows 8 / 10
Architecture: 64-bit
RAM: 2 GB for 64-bit
Storage space: 6 GB of available hard disk space
Installation Procedure:
1. Download the Atmel Studio 7 installer file from this link. Double-click on the downloaded
installer file to start the installation process.
2. A setup dialog box opens as shown in the below figure. Select the option marked in red
square and then click Next.
3. Agree on terms and conditions and click on Next button.
4. Select all the architectures as shown in below figure and then click on Next.
5. Select extension as shown in figure below and click on Next.
6. The setup will now check system validation before proceeding for installation. Click on Next.
7. Click on Install to start the installation process.
Note: For first time installation, Atmel Studio 7 will automatically install Visual Studio 2015
Shell. And this installation will take some time around 20 to 30 minutes.
8. After complete installation of Visual Studio 2015 shell, setup might ask you to restart the
system. Click on Restart Now button to restart the system.
9. Setup will resume, once system is restarted. Now installation will take some time.
10. During installation process the following window will appear for several times which will
need your permission to install different drivers from Atmel. To install these drivers, select
the Install option every time such window appears.
Note: Install all drivers which it will ask during the Atmel Studio 7 installation process.
11. Once installation is completed, you can launch Atmel Studio 7.0, it will also create desktop
icon.
12. Cheers! Atmel Studio 7 software has been successfully installed on your system.
2. Proteus 8 Demonstration
Proteus is an electronic circuit design software which includes a schematic capture, simulation
and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) Layout modules.
One of its features is Proteus Virtual System Modelling (VSM) which provides a unique
development platform for an engineer to rapidly prototype both hardware and firmware designs,
in software. It helps one to design, test and debug the embedded projects in the circuit simulator
even if the physical prototype is not available.
It allows one to load a program (HEX file, ELF file, etc.) as a property of the microcontroller part on
the schematic and during simulation will show the effects of the program on the schematic.
You can change your firmware in the IDE of your choice and, once compiled, test the new code on
the new system at the press of a button. This gives you total freedom to experiment with
different ideas and to find the optimal design simulation for your project. The schematic serves
as a 'virtual prototype' for the firmware and it's quick and easy to make changes to either.
Proteus VSM will save time and effort during the design phase and in the testing/debugging
phase.
OS: Windows 8 / 10
Architecture: 64-bit
