Romeo and Juliet Summative Assignment Sheet


Over the last couple of weeks, we have familiarized ourselves with
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in the literary, film, and
audio versions. To wrap up this unit, I am going to have
you all rewrite a scene from the play. When I say
rewrite, I mean is be creative and put the play into a
different setting. The catch is that this must be an
important scene in relation to the rest of the play, you
need to maintain the basic plot, and it must fit into the
rest of the play. You have freedom to make this scene
your own, but make sure it still fits in with the basic plot.
A very challenging task that I believe you can all do! All
scenes must be approved by me before you can begin the creation
process.

Requirements

 Must be in play format (have the stage directions, who’s speaking, etc.)
o Make sure you have when characters enter and exit
o If there is sound meant to be heard during the scene, make sure you say
that in the stage directions
o Always have the name of who is speaking before they begin talking
 Scene rewrite must be between 2-5 pages (remember you are rewriting an
entire scene, not just the “important” parts
 Must transition from the scene prior and into the following scene
 You must make the rewrite your own. Here are some examples:
o Make the rewrite fit into your personal life
o Place the rewrite in your hometown
o Place the rewrite in your favorite novel

Due Dates:

 Day 5 – Turn in Proposal for scene redo


 Day 7 – Turn in your completed outline
 Day 9 – Peer Review of work completed so far
 Day 10 – Completed scene due by the end of the class period
