1. DESIGN BASIS
1.1 The fire fighting system is designed on the basis of major fire with a single fire risk area at a
time.
1.2 No simultaneous occurrence of fire, either within a single fire area or in multiple locations in
the plant, is considered.
1.3 The fire areas is defined as areas which are bounded by the limits of a credible fire escalation
event. In order to have a useful subdivision of the fire areas, the fire areas may be divided into fire
zones. The fire zones in open plant section as per Annexure I.
For the purpose of estimating total firewater demand, followings are considered:
a. Firewater demands for one (1) Fire monitors + fixed water spray system.
b. Firewater demands for two (2) Fire hydrants + fixed water spray system
c. When estimating firewater demand for fire water monitors, fire hydrant and fixed water
spray system the following considerations are used:
(1) One (1) Fire water monitor : 1750 LPM
(2) One (1) Fire hydrant : 900 LPM
(3) Fixed water spray system: as per Annexure I.
The fire water demand is estimated by considering several fire scenarios. The biggest incident
scenario would be the following:
The maximum firewater demand is estimated at 4365LPM for any single major fire case at MVWS
system of Cable Cellar (2565 LPM) with application of 2 hydrant points (1800LPM) . Based on
preliminary firewater estimates, the MVWS system of Cable Cellar have been indicated as
producing the higher firewater demand during a single fire incident.
The largest fixed water demand of MVWS system of Cable Cellar 2565 LPM & One fire water
monitors, 1,750LPM or 2 fire hydrant:1800LPM (900LPM each)
2. Firewater Pumps
Therefore 4733LPM(284m3hr) pump is selected & it is sufficient for major fire at a single fire risk
area at a time. For estimated water demand of each single fire zone, refer to Annexure I.
3. Fire Water Supply
The water for firefighting system shall be supplied a dedicate fire water storage tank and pump
system.
The fire water ring main will be sized to supply the estimated water demand of 284m /hr. 3
Pressure rating of the pump is 120 MWC for satisfactory functioning of water monitor & hydrant
system at boiler top area.

Building) Zone -1 or 2
