Experiment No. 4 Astable & Monostable Multivibrator Using 555 Timer

The document describes an experiment to design and simulate astable and monostable multivibrators using a 555 timer integrated circuit. It includes circuit diagrams for an astable and monostable multivibrator. It provides the design calculations to achieve a 1 kHz frequency and 0.6 duty cycle for the astable multivibrator, and a 1.1 ms pulse width for the monostable multivibrator. The simulation results show the capacitor voltage and output voltage waveforms for both circuit configurations.

Design:
To design Astable multivibrator for f = 1 KHz and duty cycle D = 0.6 and Monostable
multivibrator for pulse width of 1.1 msec.

a) Astable multivibrator
f= 1 KHz, D= 0.6, assuming c = 0.1μF

D=

0.6(RA+2RB) = RA+RB ……………1

f=
( )

1K (RA+2RB) 0.1μ = 1.44 …………..2

Solving both the above equations, we obtain RA & RB as
RA =2.8 KΩ = 2.2 KΩ(Std)
RB = 5.76KΩ = 5.6 KΩ(Std)

b) Monostable multivibrator
Pulse width = 1.1RA C, assuming C = 0.1 μF
m = 1.1 x RA x 0.1 μ
RA = 10 KΩ (Std)

 Browse for “Sources” in group, select “Vcc” & “Vee” and place the same on
schematic.

 Browse for “Sources” in group, select “Ground” and place the same on schematic.

 Drag and drop “Oscilloscope” & “Signal generator” from instruments palate as
required.

 Connect all the components as per the circuit diagram and assign designed values for
the same.

 Run the schematic by clicking on Run icon.

 Double click on oscilloscope to observe input and output voltage signals on respective
channels.

 Verify the results obtained.

Result:
