Science Investigatory Project Improvised Water Filter
Science Investigatory Project Improvised Water Filter
Nowadays, water supply has been one of the biggest problems in our country is facing.
We are sure that some of you already experienced having or using dirty water coming out from
our faucets or showers. And this is because a lot of our water resources are not that clean
anymore. That is why; the government finds it difficult to provide clean water all over the
country. If this will not be avoided, our safety will most likely be at stake because there will be
no assurance that the water we are using is clean and safe. And so, it is essential to learn how to
filter water on your own as the commercial water filtration systems could be very expensive and
can cost up to thousands of pesos.
Many people use cloth as a water filter because they cannot buy a water due to its
expensive price. They are attaching a piece of cloth into the water faucet to make the tap water
“clean”. Due to this many people suffers contaminated water sickness such as cholera and other
serious illness such as Guinea worm disease, typhoid and dysentery due to the water being
unclean.
Since, we are making Improvised Water Filter for our investigatory project; our main
agenda is to prove that improvised water filter can be a way for us to have a clearer water. So our
group will make 2 examples of the same product and see which one is more effective.
Ex.
A.) The product will contain 30% charcoal, 50% sand, and 20% gravel with a piece of cloth at
the tip of the product
B.) The product will contain 30% charcoal, 50% sand, and 20% gravel with a piece of cloth and
filter paper at the tip of the product
Using things that can be found at your Backyard as an improvised water filter
(Pebbles, Sand, and Charcoal)
Formulation of the Hypothesis:
The Example a will filter the dirty water kind of clean since the tip of the product only
contain a piece of cloth, it’s like the faucet that has a piece of cloth attached to it. Then the
Example b will be the filtering a clean and clear water since it has a filter paper that can filter
any material that will be going through the filtering process of the gravel, sand and charcoal.
It benefits all persons from different places especially those who are not always having clean
water supply. It helps all persons to have a cleaner water to use. It will also benefit those who are
depriving themselves of spending too much in commercialized water filters, as well benefit those
people who are environmental friendly. Improvised water filter will benefit them in a way that all
their wants and needs will be provided, and satisfy them when it comes to what they most likely
wanted to happen.
This investigatory project covers the process of how improvised water filter can really
make dirty water a clean one. It also covers the aspect of how can materials from nature be an
effective source for us to make an efficient water filter. We made and studied about this
improvised water filter for almost one month. And this really proved a lot of things and answered
many questions in our minds. According to our study, improvised water filter is effective. And
according to other researchers, this kind of water filter is really capable of doing its job. It is
effectual; however, there is a possibility but only a minimal chance that the process of filtering
the water will be difficult since, unlike, other commercialized water filter, an improvised one is
only made of sand, pebbles, carbon, etc. But since, water filter is a cycle, the continuous
filtration will certainly make a dirty water clean Based on our one-month study, we can say that
making this improvised water filter is not that difficult. The only limitation is that the number of
cycle that the water needs to be filtered depend on the quantity and quality of the water, the
darker and larger amount of the water, means more cycle.
