1.1
Configuring HPE Routers in Capacity Plus and Connect Plus
NOTICE: The following router software versions are validated by Motorola Solutions:
• For Capacity Plus: MSR2003 Version 7.1.059, Release 0305
• For Connect Plus: MSR2003 Version 7.1.049, Release 0106P31
Process:
1 IMPORTANT: step 1 and step 2 must be performed on the current power cycle of the
router.
Connect a PC to the router through the USB (CON) port on the router by using a USB cable, or
through the Console (CON/AUX) port on the router by using a Console cable.
NOTICE: The PC must be configured with the appropriate drivers for router connection.
For more information, see the router documentation.
2 On the PC, start a terminal emulation program (HyperTerminal, PuTTY, or similar) and configure
it to use the following settings:
• Baud Rate: 9600
• Data Bits: 8
• Stop Bits: 1
• Parity: None
• Flow Control: None
3 Configure the name of the router. See Configuring the Router Name on page 18.
4 Configure the Ethernet interface IP address. See Configure the Ethernet Interface IP Address on
page 18.
5 Configure Network Address Translation (NAT). See Configuring Network Address Translation
(NAT) on page 19.
6 Add static default route. See Adding Static Default Route on page 22.
7 Optional: Enable the router to be DNS Proxy. See Enabling the Router to Be DNS Proxy on
page 23.
8 Optional: Enable the router to be a DHCP server and set a DHCP address range. See Enabling
the Router to Be a DHCP Server on page 23.
9 Optional: Set the console password. See Setting the Console Password on page 24.

Configuring the Router Name
Prerequisites: Perform the following actions:
1 Ensure that a PC is connected to the router and that a terminal emulation program is started and
configured. For more information, see step 1 and step 2 in Configuring HPE Routers in Capacity
Plus and Connect Plus on page 17.
2 Log on to the router and access the Command Line Interface (CLI).
3 Access the System View by entering: system-view
Procedure:
1 To configure the router name, enter: sysname <router name>
where <router name> is a string of 1 to 30 characters.

NOTICE: Each site should have a different LAN IP address and Subnet Mask.

GigabitEthernet0/0 prompt, enter:

10 To set the link mode to route, at the <router name>-GigabitEthernet0/1 prompt, enter:

11 To configure the interface description, at the <router name>-GigabitEthernet0/1 prompt,
enter: description <interface description>
where <interface description> is the description of this Ethernet interface

1 NOTICE: This step assumes that the GE1 Ethernet port is configured to be the WAN
Ethernet interface.
To access the WAN interface view, at the <router name> prompt, enter: interface
GigabitEthernet 0/1
2 To enable port preservation on outbound packets on the WAN interface, at the <router
name>-GigabitEthernet0/1 prompt, enter: nat outbound port-preserved
3 Add NAT port forwarding rules:
• For Capacity Plus, see Adding NAT Port Forwarding Rules in Capacity Plus on page 20.
• For Connect Plus, see Adding NAT Port Forwarding Rules in Connect Plus on page 21.
4 For Capacity Plus only: To enable static nat configuration for the WAN interface, at the

Adding NAT Port Forwarding Rules in Capacity Plus
NOTICE:
For HPE MSR2003 routers, port forwarding rules enable NAT-Loopback to occur.
Each repeater should have a different UDP port number.
The repeater firmware version validated by Motorola Solutions is R02.06.00.
Each Rest Channel/Site IP should have a different UDP port number.
Procedure:
1 To add a port forwarding rule for the Rest Channel/Site IP address and port number, at the
<router name>-GigabitEthernet0/1 prompt, enter:
nat server protocol udp global <repeater global IP address> <repeater
UDP port> inside <repeater IP address> <repeater UDP port>
2 To add a port forwarding rule for each traffic repeater’s IP address and port number, at the
<router name>-GigabitEthernet0/1 prompt, enter:
nat server protocol udp global <repeater global IP address> <repeater
UDP port> inside <repeater IP address> <repeater UDP port>
3 To save the configuration, at the <router name>-GigabitEthernet0/1 prompt, enter:

NOTICE: For HPE MSR2003 routers, port forwarding rules enable NAT-Loopback to occur.
Procedure:
1 To add a port forwarding rule for Connect Plus Network Manager, at the <router name>-

network gateway address.

Enabling the Router to Be a DHCP Server
Perform this procedure to enable the router to be a DHCP server and set a DHCP address range. For
Connect Plus, perform this procedure if you want to connect a PC to the network switch and have the
router behave as the DHCP server for the network.
Prerequisites: Perform the following actions:
1 Ensure that a PC is connected to the router and that a terminal emulation program is started and
configured. For more information, see step 1 and step 2 in Configuring HPE Routers in Capacity
Plus and Connect Plus on page 17.
2 Log on to the router and access the Command Line Interface (CLI).
3 Access the System View by entering: system-view
Procedure:
1 At the <router name> prompt, enter: dhcp server ip-pool dhcppool1
2 At the <router name>-dhcppool1 prompt, enter: gateway-list <IP Address>
where <IP Address> is the device LAN IP address.
3 At the <router name>-dhcppool1 prompt, enter: network <IP Address> mask
<Subnet Mask>
where:
<IP Address> is the network address for the network managed by this DHCP server
configuration
<Subnet Mask> is the subnet mask for the network managed by this DHCP server

Perform this procedure to disable Network Time Procotol (NTP) and set the date and time on the router
manually.

Configuring HPE Switches in Capacity Plus and Connect Plus
Process:

Prerequisites: Perform the following actions:
1 Ensure that a PC is connected to the switch and that a terminal emulation program is started and
configured. For more information, see step 1 and step 2 in Configuring HPE Switches in Capacity
Plus and Connect Plus on page 27.
2 Log on to the switch and access the Command Line Interface (CLI).
3 Access the System View by entering: system-view
