FIN8401 TERM PAPER GUIDELINES (GROUP)

The purpose of this term paper is to make bridge between the theoretical contents taught in this course with
real world practices. The goal is to analyze the financial statements of 2 publicly listed corporation for 3 years
(except any financial institution like banks or insurance companies and Grameen Phone). The analysis should
discuss how the corporation performed over the years, along with the recommendation of a specific course of
action (for example what will ensure better use of assets if a business is not efficiently using such assets), and
should identify the better business among the 2. The recommendation should be well supported by the
analysis. The term report should be submitted along with presentation/viva. To collect the Annual reports, you
can check the company websites or libraries or other sources. After collecting the financial statements, each
group with assigned companies is instructed to do the following requirements.
THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF THREE SECTIONS[TOTAL 100 MARKS = 50 ON PAPER + 50 ON PRESENTATION]:
1. Financial Analysis: Students are required to choose 2 listed company and calculate ratios for 3 years.
Calculation of the ratios includes the following (Liquidity, Coverage, Activity, Debt, Profitability, and
Market). Show at least 10 ratios.
2. Combined Analysis of the Ratios: (Time Series & Cross Sectional) This section should include
interpretation of the company’s ratios along with the trend graphs, and explain how these values can
have an impact on the management, operations & stockholders.
3. Recommendation: Based on the calculations and findings, students should come up with conclusion
which would discuss if the company is on the right track, along with what the business can to do to
improve their operation/management which will result in maximization of shareholders wealth.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
 Maximum 3 members per group.
 Each group needs to submit both the printed version (hard copy if situation allows) and the soft copy of
the report by the deadline.
 Each group must show the calculation in MS Office Excel and email the MS Word and MS Excel file along
with the hard copy submission.
 Financial Statements used must be attached with the mail/or the hard copy.
 Every group must select a different corporation than other groups.
INTEGRITY POLICY:
 Zero tolerance policy will be implemented for plagiarism. If found guilty, the individual will get "0".
 No late submission will be accepted.
