1. General Information
Component Description This three -week Course in Obstetrics and Gynecology aiming to encounter
(summary, especially important for elective
Components) students with activities related to labour and delivery,main gynaecological
problems takes place in inpatient obstetrical and gynaecological units at the
hospital. Students attend lectures and practicals on a range of obstetrical and
gynecological topics. In obstetrical and gynecological setting the students are
responsible for taking obstetrical history and complete log-books.
Component Objectives: The Obstetrics and Gynecology course is designed to develop the knowledge,
skills and attitudes and to achieve clinical competence in managing common
and important clinical problems that women may present within the discipline
under supervision of the doctor
Generic Learning Outcomes: With respect to all the generic competencies, the medical student should
achieve the following:
Decision-making
Demonstrate the ability to assess and manage common and important
problems which women will present within the discipline of Obstetrics and
gynecology with the doctor supervisor. Access and critically appraise the
literature relevant to obstetrics and gynecology.
Capacity to learn
Ability to identify gaps in knowledge and retrieve independently relevant
information.
Communication skills
Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their families.
Values
Ensure that women have given informed consent before conducting and/or
being present for examinations or procedures. Follow main medical ethical
rules,including confidentiality.

During four weeks each student is obliged to observe at least 2 deliveries and postpartum period, attend pelvic
examination. The practical classes are based on case discussions, problem-solving and reflection using
simulators available. Students attend weekly, daily and grand rounds.
Assessment comprises 2 midterm MCQ tests, presentation and OSCE exam by the end of the course.
