• Contemporary Scenes work better in this format.

Call and see more than one. Ask to meet with them and see their book. Find the one you are
most comfortable with, and whose photos you like best.

Schedule this quickly. These folks are often booking months in advance. The whole process,
from first meeting through the shoot and then processing your copies takes, at the very least,
a month. The costs range from $300 to $700. Some will ask you to hire a stylist as well,
ranging between $60-$125. Then there are the processing costs when you have them
reproduced. This is an expensive INVESTMENT.

Your picture is one of the most important tools you will have in your job search. Do not
skimp. Agents know quality; they know what is currently fashionable in actor photos. They
will ask you to have new ones made if the quality is not what they’re looking for.

Quick Resume Tips

• Set your margins, so when you need to staple your resume to the back of your headshot,
it can be cut to size. Alternatively, you can create two versions of your resume – one for
digital use and one sized for your headshot.

• Include your phone number, email address and website (if you have one).

• List hair and eye color and height. Leave weight off.

• Make it easy to read. This means a font fit for older eyes; easy to see headings; and
clean, left-justified columns.

• Include only credits that relate to acting, voice and dancing. Do not include tech/design
jobs or academic credits on your acting resume.

• Do not necessarily list credits chronologically. Highlight great roles and known directors
by putting those toward the top of your columns. You do not need to list in chronological
order.

• Do not include high school experience unless you need to fill out your resume a bit.

• Under Training -- Do not include high school summer theater camps, or teachers you
studied with in high school unless they have useful contacts in the professional world.

• Under Training – do not list so many names of teachers that it overwhelms the eye.
Someone looking at the resume should be able to quickly pick out any important names.
Be judicious.

• Special Skills – include ones that will be useful on stage or on camera.

• Don’t include dates of production

• If you have professional AND college experience, list under separate headings.

Options for professional experience:

Professional Experience
Professional Theatre
Theatre
Regional Theatre

Options for college experience:

Educational Theatre
Northwestern University
• Other headings: Film, Television, Staged Readings, Workshops, New Work. Find the
way to make the best of the credits you have. If you have been cast mostly in
developmental work (readings, workshops, new work), include it. If you have more
credits than you know what to do with, choose other credits highlighting exciting roles
and projects.

• If you are auditioning for a theater, have your theater roles listed above your film and
T.V. roles. Examples of Headings and columns:

Name of Play Role Producer Director

PROFESSIONAL THEATRE
A Streetcar Named Desire Blanche Goodman Theatre d. Bob Falls

EDUCATIONAL THEATRE
Twelfth Night Orsino Northwestern Univ. d. Shawn Douglass

Or

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
Twelfth Night Orsino Lovers & Madmen d. Georgina Spelvin
